Another nobel laureate rejects global warming

By Tom Quiner

Is global warming based on good science or bad?

I ask this question because of the treatment Governor Rick Perry of Texas received from John Harris at the Republican debate at the Reagan library a couple of weeks ago.

Mr. Harris tried to trap the Governor by demanding he list the names of the scientists on whom he based his skepticism of global warming. Mr. Perry really didn’t answer the question. Global warming evangelists who embrace Al Gore’s premise that the evidence in favor of global warming is “incontrovertible” were surely triumphant.

There is, though, a growing list of scientists who don’t buy into the whole global warming religion. The latest is Ivar Giaever, a 1973 Nobel Laureate for physics. He said of global warming:

“The claim (how can you measure the average temperature of the whole earth for a whole year?) is that the temperature has changed from ~288.0 to ~288.8 degree Kelvin in about 150 years, which (if true) means to me . . . that the temperature has been amazingly stable, and both human health and happiness have definitely improved in this ‘warming’ period.”

Another dissenter is Harold Lewis, Emeritus Professor of Physics at University of California at Santa Barbara. He said global warming is:

“the greatest and most successful pseudoscientific fraud I have seen in my long life as a physicist.”

Another dissenter is Nobelist Robert B. Laughlin.

Another dissenter is the late Nobelist Norman Borlaug.

The list is extensive, and it is growing.

The evidence in the eyes of these highly regarded scientists is not incontrovertible when it comes to global warming. What Mr. Gore and President Obama have done is make a leap of faith in their belief that global warming is real, that it is man-made, and that assuming these, it is even fixable.

In other words, it sounds like a religion.

The president could have made a more persuasive case for going green if he couched it in terms of weaning us off of mideast oil. Liberals and conservatives could agree on that. Unfortunately, we are left with the sense that the president is trying to establish a state religion.

GIOOD WORK, TOM! Last “Groundhog day”, I sent the following op-ed entitled, Global Warming Causes Blizzards”, to the Des Moines Register, but as usual, the editors saw fit to dispense with it into the “round file,” since it didn’t herald their favorite point of view! I’ll copy it below:

On this “Groundhog Day” surely Al Gore and his global warming minions will certainly see their shadows and retreat back to their dark holes! But, NO! They are determined to perpetuate their laughable hoax!

CASE IN POINT: As incredible as it may seem, proponents of Global Warming, are asserting that the world’s extreme winter weather for the past two winters is caused by (you guessed it!) Global warming! Blizzards closed Europe’s busiest airports for days, a cold spell killed dozens in Northern Europe, snow fell heavily enough to collapse the roof of the Metrodome in Minneapolis — all before winter even began. Then came the blizzards that is still ravaging much of the United States in recent days.

That is the view of Judah Cohen, director of seasonal forecasting at Atmospheric and Environmental Research. He wrote an article for The New York Times attempting to “reconcile” recent brutal winters with certain reports that the past decade was the warmest on record. According to Cohen, “The not-so-obvious short answer is that the overall warming of the atmosphere is actually creating cold-weather extremes,” Cohen goes on to state, “Last winter, too, was exceptionally snowy and cold across the Eastern United States and Eurasia, as were seven of the previous nine winters.”
Cohen dismisses the possibility that annual cycles such as El Nino, solar variability, and ocean currents could account for recent winter cooling.”

His reasoning is basically this: Higher temperatures due to global warming have melted Arctic ice over the past two and a half decades, making more moisture available to fall as snow and steadily increasing snow cover across Siberia.

“The sun’s energy reflects off the bright white snow and escapes back out to space. As a result, the temperature cools,” he writes in the Times. The increased snow cover also influences the jet stream, which then flows predominantly more north and south instead of west to east as usual. That brings warm air north to Alaska and Greenland, and pushes cold air south from the Arctic to parts of North America and Eurasia. Cohen concludes: “The reality is, we’re freezing not in spite of climate change but because of it.”

Investor’s Business Daily presents another viewpoint in an article headlined “The Abiding Faith of “Warm-ongers“ wherein they state, “Based on the global warming theory — and according to official weather forecasts made earlier in the year — this winter should be warm and dry. It’s anything but. Ice and snow cover vast parts of both Europe and North America, in one of the coldest Decembers in history.”

How much longer will Al Gore and his minions succeed in hoodwinking otherwise intelligent beings into believing this deceitful hoax?
