Why soaking the rich won’t work

The debate never ends: the rich are rich on the backs of the rest of us so they need to be soaked through higher taxes and their wealth redistributed to those who didn’t earn it.

The late great Milton Friedman addresses this issue head on in the video clip above.

He makes reference to black teen age unemployment being between 30 and 40 percent. Today, on the heels of more government involvement in the marketplace and schools, and higher minimum wages, black teenage unemployment is above fifty percent.

Mr. Friedman’s philosophy is so logical, and yet the Left refuses to learn in the face of evidence that their approach never works.

Tom, I don’t think the main issue is soaking the rich. They already pay far more than their proportional share of federal taxes. The real issue is the growing wealth disparity between the wealthy and the middle class. This gap appears to be growing larger if the reports I read are accurate.

We need a strong middle class, so this growing disparity is unhealthy and represents a threat to our way of life and our economic system. To put it another way, Congress has set up an environment that allows the elite financial class to drain wealth from the middle class and concentrate more of it in the upper class. I’d be interested in your opinion on this. Perhaps I’m not seeing the situation correctly.
