What kind of person is Nancy Pelosi?

By Tom Quiner

I am awed by the beauty of the Catholic faith.

Critics of Catholicism typically don’t know Catholicism. I know how that goes, because I wasn’t Catholic for half of my life. I was critical with aspects of Catholicism before I became Catholic. The more I learn about my faith, the more I am in love with it.

That’s why I am so disheartened when I hear “Catholic” politicians like Nancy Pelosi work so ferociously against the teachings of the church in the public arena.

The former Speaker of the House has worked against her Church’s position on abortion throughout her political career.

Yesterday, she was livid that the U.S. Catholic Bishops disagreed with her that Big Government should force private insurance companies to provide contraception and abortion services to their customers.

“[Those who disagree] may not like the language, but the truth is what I said. I’m a devout Catholic and I honor my faith and love it . . . but they have this conscience thing [that puts women at risk.]”

Let us dissect her remark.

“I’m a devout Catholic …”

The word devout suggests someone is devoted to a personal interest, or a cause, or a belief system. Ms. Pelosi is certainly not devoted to the Catholic belief system or she wouldn’t so forcefully and publicly work to undermine the Church’s position on abortion and contraception.

“I honor my faith …”

To honor is to esteem, to exalt and publicly pay respect to your belief system. Ms. Pelosi surely honors Planned Parenthood, but she dishonors the Church by spreading the use of abortion and contraception.

“I love my faith … ”

There are different kinds of love. The noblest is known as agape, or sacrificial love. Ms. Pelosi doesn’t love her church enough to sacrifice her political ambitions. She has jettisoned her Catholic beliefs and thrown herself into an illicit affair the abortion lobby.

“But THEY have this conscience thing that puts women at risk” [emphasis mine].

Ms. Pelosi obviously doesn’t have this conscience “thing” and makes sure we know with her use of the word “they” to separate her from the rest of us dreamy-eyed Catholics who love to put women at risk. (For the record, each abortion puts two human beings at risk: the baby AND the mother).

The Catholic bishops sure disagree with her current and past remarks on this subject, such as this remark she made a few years ago:

” … as an ardent, practicing Catholic, this is an issue that I have studied for a long time. And what I know is, over the centuries, the doctors of the church have not been able to make that definition. And Senator—St. Augustine said at three months. We don’t know. The point is, is that it shouldn’t have an impact on the woman’s right to choose.”

Bishop Lori disagrees. He said Ms. Pelosi …

“misrepresented the history and nature of the authentic teaching of the Catholic Church against abortion.”

Cardinal Francis George disagrees:

“The teaching that covers evils such as abortion could not be clearer.”

Seventeen bishops went on record in disagreement.

Nancy Pelosi, Kathleen Sebelius, Iowa Senator Tom Harkin, Vice President Joe Biden, Senator John Kerry, and the late Senator Ted Kennedy represent a few of the Catholic politicians on the national scene who are political enemies of their church on a core life and death issue.

What kind of person claims to be an ardent practicing Catholic, and yet so despises what her or his church believes in?

amen! I’m not a Catholic, but love God with all my heart, and have received the Lord Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour. When I received Him and was born again 60+ years ago, He transformed my life and gave me a new Nature which desires to please and obey Him! Abortion is definitely a grievance to the Author of ALL life, and is far outside God’s Perfect Will!

Pelosi’s claim that to deny women the “right” to murder their babies “puts women at risk” is pure fallacy! The abortion procedure is often far more dangerous than childbirth and the lingering effects on the body p the lus guilt and sorrow at the lost life plague the woman for years! Childbirth is part of God’s Perfect Plan to propagate His Creation! Those who claim to be “pro-choice give the baby NO “choice”.

Ms. Pelosi effectively gave away the truth of the matter when she said, “Catholics….. THEY have this conscience thing.” Emphasis with “they” here was mine as well as Tom’s, though it could not have jumped off the screen more quickly when read from her stating it.
