Democrats say goodbye to God

By Tom Quiner

FRANKLIN ROOSEVELT: Used taxpayer money to buy Bibles for servicemen.

The divorce is final. Democrats have expunged God from their party platform.

Just four years ago, their platform had several references to God, including:

“We need a government that stands up for the hopes, values, and interests of working people, and gives everyone willing to work hard the chance to make the most of their God-given potential.”

The new wording is godless:

“We gather to reclaim the basic bargain that built the largest middle class and the most prosperous nation on Earth – the simple principle that in America, hard work should pay off, responsibility should be rewarded, and each one of us should be able to go as far as our talent and drive take us.”

The Democrats had no choice but to leave God behind. Their platform has removed any pretensions that abortion should be rare, but legal. They now espouse abortion as a fundamental, constitutional right:

“The Democratic Party strongly and unequivocally supports Roe v. Wade and a woman’s right to make decisions regarding her pregnancy, including a safe and legal abortion, regardless of ability to pay.”

In other words, if you are unable to pay for an abortion to discard an inconvenient daughter, your neighbor should have to pay for it via her taxes, even if she is a devout Catholic.

America was built on a grand idea, that we have a God-given right to life. Democrats virulently reject such sentimentality. To advance such a radical proposition that every woman in America is entitled to free abortions, they have to expunge God from their  party doctrine.

God is so yesterday to the Democrats. He is so bothersome in His assertion that man is His sacred creation.

It is interesting how radical Democrats have become.

I came into possession of a pocket bible this morning published back in 1941. It is a Christian bible, because it only contains the New Testament along with the book of Psalms from the Old Testament. This little bible was given to every serviceman during World War II by our federal government.

It contains the Lord’s Prayer along with lyrics for beloved Christian hymns, including “Onward, Christian Soldier,” “Rock of Ages,” and “Faith of our Fathers.”

The first page of the bible has a letter from the nation’s Commander-in-Chief, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Here is what he said:

To the Armed Forces:

As Commander-in-Chief I take pleasure in commending the reading of the Bible to all who serve in the armed forces of the United States. Throughout the centuries men of many faiths and diverse origins have found in the Sacred Book words of wisdom, counsel and inspiration. It is a fountain of strength and now, as always, an aid in attaining the highest aspirations of the human soul.

Very sincerely yours,

Franklin D. Roosevelt

Religion is viewed much differently today by the Democratic Party than yesterday in light of their rejection of their former views on life and marriage. Now, they are insistent on imposing their new value system on the faithful who find these radical positions more than repugnant, they view them as a violation of their religious consciences.

Can you imagine what FDR would say about a political party that wants taxpayers to fund abortions for anyone who can’t afford to pay for it?

I suspect he’d be a Republican today.

It literally breaks my heart and makes my stomach hurt that people sitting next to me in church can vote for the man at war with christianity, particularly the Catholic Church, and the unborn.

Why can’t they see what is right before them? This man has hypnotized the masses. I was afraid of him when he was running 4 years ago before I even knew him because of the god-like qualities people were assigning to him. There was a Facebook post this week with Obama holding a small child and someone commented “he’s got the whole world in his hands.” I wouldn’t have said that about Mother Teresa.

We are sleeping while Rome is burning.

      Maybe Tytler was right:

“A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world’s greatest civilizations has been 200 years.

Great nations rise and fall. The people go from bondage to spiritual truth, to great courage, from courage to liberty, from liberty to abundance, from abundance to selfishness, from selfishness to complacency, from complacency to apathy, from apathy to dependence, from dependence back again to bondage.”

Where are we on the Tytler cycle? I think we are moving from apathy to dependence, though we may be well on our way to bondage. Hopefully, we can have a “reawakening” soon, and come back around to spiritual truth.

This is a nation that still has a lot of folks with fire in the belly, fire for freedom, for independence, for God. Like you, I am concerned by the number of Americans comfortable with dependence on big government. We’re in the midst of a war. Battles are being fought in our courtrooms right down to our very churches.

Unfortunately, abortion has been fused with the religious right “radicals” who want to outlaw all abortions, even in rape or incest or welfare of the mother. It’s one of those issues that come up before elections than get buried as soon as the election is over. Mainstream Christians don’t see life beginning with conception or they don’t want the government involved or they just don’t care.

The term “Christian” carries a very diverse collection of beliefs. I was listening to WHO’s morning radio show and by the guest’s definition (a Harvard lawyer / Bishop), Catholics would not be considered “true” Christians because they don’t belief in a literal Bible. For him, the Bible was written by God. Noah and Jonah are literal tales – not simply stories that teach moral lessons. It has been my experience these Evangelicals tend to follow the writings of Paul more than Jesus but that is my opinion.

The number of abortions in the cases of rape, incest and “welfare of the mother,” is so infinitesimal that they don’t factor into the conversation of the larger issue-willfully taking the life of another. Don’t even try and paint that as unconcern for the mother in these situations, or demonizing pregnant mothers who are in crisis as a result of their pregnancy. Just as throwing the death penalty out there is a red herring (How many people have lost their lives in the U.S. EVER from capital punishment? Considering the 4000 killed each day via abortion, there is not even a comparison), so is the ploy of reaching for rape/incest/life of the mother as justification for legalized abortion. “Welfare of the mother” has been hijacked in many cases by the medical community using the really ridiculous, “the pregnancy would simply be too taxing for the patient at this time,” line. Think. When a mother has become pregnant as a result of rape or incest, is ending the life of the child going to make her unpregnant? No. Maternity is forever. Will it undo the experience she has had to endure? Absolutely not. Will it erase the horror of her violation? No way. Abortion will only dogpile more on. These cases are perfect example of the lie of the term “choice.” Does anyone really believe a mother would choose to take the life of her unborn child, if she really had a choice? If she really was clear, not misled, and not denying the medical and spiritual fact that there is life within her, and it is her offspring, and that God gives life as a gift no matter the circumstance? Destroying a second life doesn’t mend the first. If recognition of life for what it is, both the mother’s and her child’s life, makes one by definition a religious right radical, then that’s a badge of honor. Genuinely pro-life people are working on behalf of life before, during and after every election. If those who fight and yell so vehemently to protect so-called “abortion” or “reproductive rights” put half the time and energy into supporting pregnant mothers in crisis as they do demonizing those who do;if they used their words to assure those mothers that things will be fine if they can find it within themselves to trust God, instead of employing their words for calumny towards prolife people, the world would be an infinitely more loving place, with a whole lot more people allowed to enter it.

I agree that it is a red herring. But “perception” matters, especially in the world of politics. Politicians on both sides use the issue to rally their base BEFORE the election, but rarely do anything once elected.

“The number of abortions in the cases of rape, incest and “welfare of the mother,” is so infinitesimal …” I agree completely. That is why I don’t understand why the pro-life people aren’t willing to give in on these rare exceptions in exchange for greater limits on abortions in general. If you can eliminate even one abortion it is a step in the right direction.

“Does anyone really believe a mother would choose to take the life of her unborn child, if she really had a choice?” Once again, I agree. I raised my three sons to respect women – something I think is lacking for too many boys. The concept that boys need to “sow those wild oats” is still alive and doing well today. I think too many girls base their self-worth on the boyfriend they can land. Add in a low self-image due to media, many girls use sex to compete. Parents who are in denial that their kids would ever have sex doesn’t help either. Parents need to talk to their kids. All three of my kids knew they could talk to me about anything.

They’re baaaack… but God doesn’t care about their approval and Israel knows that it will have to go it alone with this bunch.

…. The divorce is rather anti-climactic given that infidelity has been the norm for so very long.
