Another liberal group defaces public property

Why do so many liberal groups feel a need to deface public property?
The country was subjected to the filth and destruction of the Occupy Wallstreet crowd most recently.
Another liberal group struck yesterday here in Des Moines. Iowans for Animal Liberation vandalized the butter cow, an icon at the Iowa State Fair, pictured above in a photo taken by the Des Moines Register.
Their gripe? That Iowa has the blood of 11 billion animals slaughtered in the name of food production on its hands each year.
For the record, there was no mention made of the some 200,000 Iowans aborted since 1974 in the name of convenience.
Go figure.

I think many Christians would agree that the stewardship role they believe your god gave humans over animals is all to often abused in the factory environment of modern farming. While you may not think that the miserable life and death of 11 billion ‘lesser’ sentient beings is worth caring about, and that our animal urge for the unnecessary consumption of flesh and other animal derivatives is justified, I think the passion this topic arouses in people in understandable. Although I agree that expressing anger through defacing public property is not the most constructive way to go about it.
In the same way, although I think it’s important to work to reduce the numbers of unwanted pregnancies and unnecessary abortions, public harassment of staff in abortion clinics and labelling women murderers, is not the most constructive way to go about it.
I agree with you that publically defacing property is not the way to make a point. I also agree that no number of cows equals one human baby. However, as violetwisp pointed out, good stewardship is important, and it bothers me on just a human level of compassion that chickens are raised in tiny cages with their beaks cut off and never see sunlight and that calves are kept in tiny spaces where their little lives are ended to make them into veal and that cows are placed in horribly crowded feed lots where disease is rampant. Too bad the farmers who use these wretched models of farming are the ones who get government subsidies while the little guys that raise animals humanely are on their own. Actually, if they were all on their own, then I suspect the market would correct the problem in short order.
Violetwisp, regarding your statements about unwanted pregnancies, there really is a simple solution, but our society is getting farther and farther from it as we come to the communal conclusion that every appetite must be satisfied. Both abstinence and NFP are excellent examples of sacrificing one’s appetites for a greater good.
Also, most protests at abortion clinics are extremely peacable and prayerful. I have never seen or been involved in one that came anywhere close to harrassing the staff or labeling women as murderers. And lest you think that pro-lifers “only care about the fetuses” as some would say, the same pro-lifers provide opportunities for women to heal from the pain of abortion.

Well-said. I have prayed outside of Planned Parenthood on many occasions. I have participated in countless Life Chains. Every experience has been peaceful, prayerful, and non-destructive. No one would know we had even been there if it wasn’t for the impact of the prayers!
