The United Methodist church shoots itself in the foot

Bill Mefford thinks the March for Life is a joke.

He proudly displayed a placard (above) at the March which mocked the efforts of all the kids from every state in the union who traveled to D.C. to stand up for the little guy.

I’d expect this type of mockery from Planned Parenthood or any of the other representatives of Big Abortion who earn their livelihood on the backs of the pre born and their mothers.

But this guy is a big shot with the Methodist church, their “Director of Civil and Human Rights.”

He doesn’t seem so civil mocking the half a million people who came to the March on their own dime, while Mr. Mefford is on the clock for the Methodists.

The Methodists kind of walk both sides of the street on the abortion issue. Their Book of Principles has this to say on the subject:

“The beginning of life and the ending of life are the God-given boundaries of human existence. While individuals have always had some degree of control over when they would die, they now have the awesome power to determine when and even whether new individuals will be born.”

I thought this awesome power came from God, not man. Their Book of Principles goes on to say…

“…we are equally bound to respect the sacredness of the life and well-being of the mother, for whom devastating damage may result from an unacceptable pregnancy.”

They don’t like abortion, but they kind of accept it.

Okay, but why send your “Director of Civil and Human Rights” to the March to mock the hundreds of thousands of kids there? Maybe he was there on his own. Nonetheless, Mr. Mefford has dealt a blow to the already sagging fortunes of the United Methodist church, whose membership has declined every year since 1968.

Bad form, Mr. Mefford.

I am blessed to be a practicing member of the Catholic Church that believes in a consistent ethic of life!

Suzie, although I don’t mean to be lobbing bombs at Methodists, I am really concerned about their drift. Like you, I love the Catholic Church and their consistent ethic of life. Thanks for writing. Come again soon!

He works for the so-called “General Board of Church and Society” and they print articles that are radically pro-abortion. Stuff that sounds like it could have been written by Planned Parenthood. Most Methodists do not know of its existence, but part of their tithe goes to funding it.

It’s been a few years since I left the Methodist “church,” but they were a major reason I left.

I didn’t know about the “General Board.” Thanks for the insights, and for writing.

The Methodist Church, like so many other mainline churches, has long ago left its first love…..social action, not the Savior, has become its god. I don’t doubt the Wesleys would not recognize this church as an offshoot of their preaching and lifestyle.
Although there are people in every church body who support abortion even when their leaders are pro-life, I think it worse when church leaders mislead their flock and misuse their money to support the culture of selfishness and death. But, of course, they will ultimately have to answer to God – the real One.
