Steve Dice added a couple quotes from respected historical figures on this in his book “Rules For Conservatives.
    ********************************************

As Alexis de Tocqueville said “I sought for the key to the greatness of America in her harbors in her fertile fields and boundless forests in her rich mines and vast world commerce in her public school system and institutions of learning I sought for it in her Democratic Congress and in her matchless Constitution not until I went into the churches of America and heard her Pulpits aflame with righteousness did I understand the secret of her genius and power America is great because America is good and if America ever ceases to be good America ceases to be great.”

“You cannot have limited self-government without first having a moral people capable of governing themselves and you cannot have a moral people without the sort of spiritual awakening in a culture that preceded this republic in the first place. It is no coincidence the more we collectively turn our backs on our spiritual heritage the more immoral the culture becomes and thus the bigger government gets.
For if man will not be ruled by God they must be ruled by other men otherwise there is no higher authority we can call upon to settle our disputes and disagreements with one another the more we need the rule of man the bigger the government gets the more we submit to the rules of God the smaller the government gets.”

When government removes God government becomes God. (G.K. Chesterton)

    Tom,

I agree with commandments 5 – 10. As I think you know, I am an atheist. I agree with much of the message of the video. But, I don’t think a person must subscribe to a religion to have a source of morality. I believe that morality is subjective, but I believe that a large majority agree with those 6 commandments.

What is the basis of your support of Commandments 5 to 10? As an atheist, there is no absolute Truth, is there? Is your agreement based natural law?

Tom-You said something in another post about predestination. I find it hard to believe that God would predestine anyone to Hell. I believe He attempts to give everyone a chance to accept Christ.

Shawn, not sure what you’re referring to. Catholics believe in free will, not predestination. God does not predestine anyone to go to Hell. In fact, God sends no one to Hell, we send ourselves by rejecting his outstretched hand. I agree totally with your last sentence. Sorry if I wrote anything confusing on the subject before. Hope this clears it up.
