The educated team at Fox News

I was on the Facebook page for Quiner’s Diner reader, Shawn, a good conservative. Here’s what he had to say:

A friend of mine recently lambasted FOX News as a network “full of college dropouts”. So I decided to do a little checking. Here is their weekday schedule, with all of their regular hosts:

12 AM and 9PM the Kelly File hosted by Megan Kelly, law degree
1 AM and 10 PM Hannity, hosted by Sean Hannity, (yep, college dropout)
2 AM and 7 PM, Greta Van Susteren, law degree
3 AM Red Eye, hosted by Andy Levy, degree from Columbia U.
4 AM and 5PM The Five, hosts change. Those with degrees include Bob Beckel, Eric Bolling, Juan Williams, Kimberly Guilfoyle, Dana Perino, Greg Gutfeld, and Andrea Tantaros. These are ALL the regular hosts.
5 AM Fox and Friends – This is more of an entertainment show. Still, those with degrees: Steve Doocy, Elisabeth Hasselbeck, Brian Kilmeade, Tucker Carlson, Anna Kooiman, and Clayton Morris. Basically ALL the regular hosts of Fox and Friends.
9 AM America’s Newsroom – Bill Hemmer, went to Miami U., and Martha McCallum, St. Lawrence University.
11 AM and 1 PM- Happening Now – Jon Scott, University of Mo. Columbia, and Jenna Lee, MS from Columbia U.
12PM – Outnumbered – hosted by Andrea Tantaros, Jedediah Bila, Harris Faulkner, Melissa Francis, Katie Pavlich, Kirsten Powers, Sandra Smith, and Lisa Kennedy Montgomery, ALL of whom have at least a bachelors degree. 3 or 4 have their Masters as well.
2 PM – The Real Story – hosted by Gretchen Carlson, Stanford U.
3 PM – Shepard Smith Reporting – 2 credits shy of his degree.
4 PM – Your World with Neil Cavuto – Master’s from American University
6 PM – Special Report with Bret Baier – DePauw University
8 PM and 11 PM – The O’Reilly Factor – Bill has TWO Master’s degrees.
The rest of the day I have already covered…So all of my lefty friends out there who like to crow that FOX News is all college dropouts, you might want to…well…eat a little of that crow.

Reblogged this on hampshire Hog and commented:
This actually makes things worse…since it now appears that Fox broadcasts shite involving ‘educated’ presenters…

      Now don’t get snarky.

    • parrillaturi on March 20, 2015 at 7:12 pm

      You have my condolences.

Thanks for reposting this, Tom. I love how the left thinks Fox News is full of a bunch of idiots. Among all of those hosts, there are at least 4 or 5 law degrees, several Master’s degrees, and everyone but Hannity and Shepard Smith (2 credits shy of his degree) has a college degree. I’ve always said, “Confront liberals with the facts; it’s like holy water to vampires.”

Shawn, you’re talking like a Catholic!

That’s why they are so well informed, witty, and over all, so capable. Not too long ago, I made some comments, with respect to certain verbalized comments by some in the print aspect of the media. Some joker called me out, spewing demeaning tirades at my, in his view, lack of education. Well, I set him straight, as I do have a PhD in Psychology. Needles to say, he has not responded. Thank you for posting this. Good read.

Much of you report is nonsense. Having an education is a basic minimum requirement to be a journalist. The conservative community thinks that the fact that many of the talking mouthpieces on Fox have a basic level of education to be a journalist is an admirable accomplishment.

It is not, it is too be expected. And journalism degree does not give you an education sufficient to give an “expert” opinion on anything being broadcasted. It is to report the new, as objectively as possible, and as factually accurate as possible.

Yet the fail to do even that hour by hour, day by day, week by week, for years. They are utter failures as journalists.

It is transparently a propaganda machine. I would say all they do is give their idiotic opinions but even that is a stretch because the truth is most of what they way is not even their own talking points.

Conservatives in this country are an absolute joke. A laughing stock bringing shame to America on a global stage. Pathetic.

As bad as the worst most marginalized and irrelevant political parties in the rest of the industrial world. Yet in America they cling to political relevance due to a well funded 24 hours propaganda machine.

Come on, tell us how you really feel. I couldn’t tell from your nuanced response.

      • Sral Rolyat (@FurphyHaruspex) on March 26, 2015 at 5:05 pm

Well, at least you did not filter the post. I give you credit for that. Thanks, Tom.

You should add an edit function. Some of us are distarded with keyboards.

As long as you keep it clean, Sral, you can unload. Your personality came through loud and clear.

            Well said, Shawn.

    • Shawn Pavlik on March 26, 2015 at 5:24 pm

Well, I originally posted the above on Facebook, because one of my leftist friends made a claim that “Fox News is populated by mostly dropouts”. As you can see, they are not.

I will admit that Fox News has a conservative slant to it, but you cannot say they are factually inaccurate or “utter failures as journalists”. I would say they get the facts right about as often as the other major networks. And as far as being “failures”, Fox news is considered the most trusted cable news station in America. It is also the most watched cable news station in America. Hardly failures.

Now I am talking about the news shows on Fox News, like America’s News Room, Happening Now, Shepard Smith Reporting, Your World with Neil Cavuto, and Special Report with Bret Baier. If you want to take umbrage and say that the other programs like O’Reilly, Hannity, The Five, Greta, Outnumbered, or The Kelly File are propaganda, opinions, whatever, that’s maybe a little closer to the truth, because these are commentary shows. The people on them are commentators, not journalists. They are speaking to a conservative audience, and they know their audience, and their audience loves them. Just as MSNBC has that nutjob Ed Schulz and Rachel Maddow and Chris Matthews. They are even more biased than Fox News.

To another of your points, how is conservatism a joke? I would agree that some of the leadership of our party, i.e. Boehner, Lindsay Graham, Mitch McConnell, are jokes. They don’t stand for anything. But the true conservatives, people like Rand Paul, Ted Cruz, Trey Gowdy, Nikki Haley, Bobby Jindal, etc., are not jokes at all. They have a vision to restore America to greatness once again. Obama and his ilk act like we are not a great country. Progressive liberals like him do not believe in American exceptionalism. Ted Cruz’s speech the other day, I believe, sets him up as the man to beat in 2016. It was brilliant, on a level with some of Reagan’s speeches.

Know what I think is a joke? “Progressives” continuing to push bigger and bigger government while the rest of the world is scaling back. China has reverted to a mostly capitalist system. Their Communist government is in name only, though their brutality remains. Their economy is growing quickly because of their embrace of capitalism. Europe is teetering on the edge of collapse because of their socialist progressive policies. Greece and Spain are basically bankrupt and only being propped up by the more successful, more capitalist nations like Germany and the UK. Israel just voted in a conservative government once more. Meanwhile, libs in our government continue to push for more and more government control and spending, while our debt careens out of control. $20 trillion by the time Obama is done, adding more to our national debt during his presidency than ALL of the previous candidates combined. I though Bush was a crappy president because of all his increases in spending, but Bush was a piker compared to Obama.

Conservatives continue to “cling to relevance” in America, because voters consider themselves conservative at a much higher rate than liberal. The gap is closing but according to a recent (Feb 11) Gallup Poll, 38 percent of Americans consider themselves conservative compared with 24 percent liberal. One might wonder how the Democrat party continues to “cling to relevance” with numbers like that.

Only reason that Obama won was the Republican candidates we chose didn’t stand for anything. We need a standard bearer similar to what we had in Ronald Reagan, one who will raise a conservative banner of “no pale pastels but bold colors which make it unmistakably clear where we stand on all of the issues troubling the people”. If we do, 2016 could be similar to 1980 or 1984, an overwhelming defeat for liberals.

    • parrillaturi on March 26, 2015 at 7:35 pm

I would rather be an educated conservative reporter, than a nonsensical liberal one. Blessings.

    • parrillaturi on February 2, 2018 at 6:17 pm

I think you meant to say, MSM, CNN, and the rest of the left leaning liberal media. Now, as Tom put it…tell us how you really feel. Blessings.

  5. […] Shawn did some research and discovered that, in fact, Fox News reporters have impressive educational credentials. Quiner’s Diner reported his research last week in a post entitled, “The educated team at Fox News.” […]

  6. Linda Thomas on February 2, 2018 at 12:51 pm

Do any of these reporters have PhD degrees in journalism or political science? Degrees in some areas do not qualify one to objectively report news so it is critical to have journalism and political expertise as well. I have a Masters and am working on my PhD but these mine do not qualify me for reporting or news in areas I am not qualified.

    • quinersdiner on February 2, 2018 at 1:02 pm

I really don’t know. The post responded to taunts from liberals who characterized Fox News as a “network of college dropouts.” That has clearly been dispelled. On the other hand, I remember CNN hired an actress named Andrea Thompson a year after she got her GED. This came at the same time they laid off ton of workers, and according to Wikipedia, were “refocusing on personalities to draw in younger viewers.” Hmmm.

It doesn’t matter your education. If your general position is conservatism you’ve already lost the battle. If conservatism was such a winning idea, we’d still have slavery, prohibition, and the 3/5ths compromise. Women would still have no rights, the Puritans would have a solid religious hold over the country and we’d still be split into slave and free states. Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure these concepts are practically erection inducing to some conservative minded person somewhere, but the fact of the matter is progressivism wins out every time. Always has, always will. And since the concept of a “conservative progressive” is, in itself an oxymoron. I’m fine with letting liberals steer the ship. Drop as many anchors as you’d like you’re just slowing progress. It never stops.

    • quinersdiner on September 1, 2018 at 11:37 am

For clarification, it was Republicans who opposed human slavery and Democrats who supported it. Remember, Lincoln was the first Republican president. For clarification, more Democrats voted for Prohibition than Republicans. And for clarification, the Republican party didn’t exist at the time of the 3/5 Compromise. Fortunately, Democrats ultimately lost out on these issues. Thanks for writing.

      • Markus H. on October 26, 2018 at 1:33 pm

Please don’t make the mistake of thinking that the Republicans of today were the Republicans of the Lincoln era. In those days, the progressives were the Republicans, the Democrats the conservatives. You can’t align yourself with the Republicans of that era if you’re one today, because those Republicans are today’s Democrats. If you don’t know that, then you haven’t studied your history. Again, progressivism *always* wins out whether it comes from an elephant or a donkey.

Thank you for your offer of the fine dinning, however I am sure there are no leftovers. Many ways of, “getting around the law.” As they are all well aware of. I am referring to journalism.
