Spiritual warfare at the cineplex

By Tom Quiner

imagesTwo nineteen year college students got intimate.

It was consensual, at first.

Then the man, Mohammad Hossain, hit his bound lover hard with his belt, enacting a scene from “50 Shades of Grey.”

The woman cried and pled for him to stop. She later testified:

“He said, ‘I want to see how much you can take.’ He said, ‘I want to see you cry.’ “

Mr. Hossain claims they were role-playing the movie. The woman said, “I didn’t see it that way.”

However, the judge didn’t see it the way the woman did, and dropped all charges against Mr. Hossain who plans on becoming a pediatrician.

Welcome to our culture.

I like what Dr. Miriam Grossman had to say on her Facebook page this morning:

“Girls, if you think “Fifty Shades of Grey” was cool, look at what happened to this real life Anastasia. She was beaten and raped, but all charges against the guy have been dropped.

He’s free to return to school, and become….a pediatrician.
God help us!”

Yes, God help us.

Millions of people have now seen this movie, which ironically beat “The Passion of the Christ’s” box office record for an opening weekend for an R-rated film.

In case you’re missing the big picture, we’re in the midst of spiritual warfare.

Just as Mel Gibson’s film, “The Passion of the Christ,” drew people toward Christ, “50 Shades” is drawing people toward Satan.

Choose your entertainment wisely.

Good grief! One must guard ones faith no matter how legit others feel about vulgar movies.

Most people really cannot see behind the spiritual curtain. Another argument is that we all innately sense some spirituality, but prefer not to pull back the curtain. Either way, I can see why some stand on street corners and shout out for repentance: the world is mad and alone we are powerless to stop it. However, we do have weapons and allies:

St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the Devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly hosts, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan, and all the evil spirits, who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen

Freedom has its challenges. I wouldn’t want it any other way.
