Fact-checking climate change hype

By Tom Quiner

“Are we living in the last century of our civilization?”

Thus begins an ABC special back in 2008. The show hyper ventilates about the coming consequences of global warming or climate change (whatever it was called then) if mankind doesn’t change its ways.

It predicts that New York City will be under water by 2015 and that flames will cover hundreds of miles of the U.S.

It predicts heat and declining crop production. In fact, by 2015 the price of milk was supposed to rise to $12.99 a gallon.

It predicts that a gallon of gasoline would cost $9 per gallon by 2015.

One of the talking heads on the show, Chris Cuomo, fretfully asks, “Could it really be that bad?”

The answer is: of course not. A gallon of milk actually costs $3.39, not the nearly $13 predicted by the show’s climate fanaticists. The price of gas has actually declined to $2.75 a gallon.

The_Population_BombThis is par for the course for these kooks. The granddaddy of them all was Paul Ehrlich who penned a book called “The Population Bomb” back in 1968. He warned that the world was running out of resources due to overpopulation. Here are a few of his warnings:

“[By 1975] some experts feel that food shortages will have escalated the present level of world hunger and starvation into famines of unbelievable proportions. Other experts, more optimistic, think the ultimate food-population collision will not occur until the decade of the 1980s.”

In other words, the only debate was when, not if, disaster would strike. We have too many people, said Erlich, and not enough food. His focus was on getting rid of people. Erhlich was certain of his facts:

“Population will inevitably and completely outstrip whatever small increases in food supplies we make. The death rate will increase until at least 100-200 million people per year will be starving to death during the next ten years.”

Of course, it was all a bunch of nonsense, but a lot of impressionable young baby boomers  were formed by this book and the Earth Day movement. They are today’s liberals leading the charge for climate change policies and legislation.

Erlich advanced solutions which included putting birth control in our water supply, forced abortions, coercive sterilization, punitive taxes on people who have children, and other heavy-handed government solutions that violate civil liberties and human dignity.

This idea that “people are bad” fed the notion that human abortion was a legitimate solution to save the planet. Ironically, liberal thinking that had always been defined as “looking out for the little guy” abruptly turned on the little guy, the preborn. Mother Earth became more important to them than the future polluters residing in the womb.

Every prediction made by these people is wrong. But that does not deter them. They want, no … they demand, more government control over our lives.

Don’t give it to them. They are fanatics.

I love great entertainment and sometimes even horror stories. They’re gripping, which is exactly what this nonsense is. You should check out my “truth about conspiracy theories.” I have a little fun with this subject.

    Great site, by the way.

Excellent, Tom. Nothing like a reality check. Did ABC ever issue a mea culpa? Did Paul Ehrlich? Unfortunately, the notion that “human beings are the enemy” still persists among “the elite.”

No, if anything, they just double down. Thanks for writing, John.

Ehrlich still stands by what he wrote back in the sixties. He’ll never admit he was wrong.

Here’s a good quickie overview of the overpopulation hoax (apologies if this is something you’ve already posted — I can never remember where I saw things originally):

Yes, I’ve posted this on Quiner’s Diner in the past. I’m like you, sometimes I can’t remember where I’ve seen this type of thing before. Always great to hear from you.
