Marriage in the U.S. is defined by the courts if you want all the privileges that go with it. It’s up to each church whether they want to conduct the ceremony. Would you really want one church to decide for all?

I certainly don’t want the court to decide. This should have been left up to the democratic process. Now the church of Secular Humanism has established its religion as the law of the land.

Hi, Bruce. Marriage is a sacrament, period. The author is God. The state usurped the vocation and made it into what it chose. Caesar took license with the power that God gave the state. On Friday, the federal government (the judiciary) decided on a case in which the subject matter, marriage, was again usurped. The state and the federal government have taken license to transgress a moral law. And we, human persons, may not create our own moral law. We, human persons, cannot measure morality against ourselves. Why, because a thing cannot measure itself. There must be something outside of the self who/which qualifies a thing of the self. Here is a very lucid explanation of that concept by the Venerable Archbishop Fulton Sheen:

“The millions of the world who keep their fingers on the pulse of public opinion and follow every theory, every vogue, every panacea, every popular immorality, and who approve the appointment of every anti-moral educator, have no standard of right and wrong. A thing cannot measure itself: A tape measure must be outside the cloth; a speedometer must not be a brick in the roadway; a judge must not be a shareholder in the corporation whose cause he judges. In like manner the judgment of the world must be from outside the world. Such a standard is the need of the hour — an authority that does not, like some politician, find out what the people want and then give it to them, but which gives them what is true and good whether it is popular or not. We need someone to be healthy when the world is sick; someone to be a stretcher-bearer when the battlefields are freighted with wounded; someone to be calm when the house is burning; someone to be right when the world is wrong, as on Easter when they who slew the Foe lost the day.”

Effectively, Obama is the modern day King Henry VIII and the courts have done the secular bidding for both regimes. And both were necessary so that the perversion of the sexual faculty could be inscribed into law as a right and as a good. So, Tom, I agree with you. The religion of Secular Humanism has been established here. We have become like England, again, worshiping and existing at the pleasure of the monarchy. Our lawmakers are mostly on the take and will not right the ship. John Adams was prescient when he said, “Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.” My mom used to say, “From the big ones the little ones learn.” Obama, the big cheese, flouts laws and conventions with impunity. Why shouldn’t other politicians follow suit if there are no longer any safeguards? There is more than enough perversion for everyone to get a piece of the pie for themselves. We allowed it to happen and all the king’s men protect him at all costs.

      An accurate characterization. Well said.
