“I hate abortion”

By Tom Quiner

The Des Moines Register supports all things liberal.

It is refreshing when they run a guest editorial from someone with a contrarian position to liberal orthodoxy.

The ran such a piece today. It was written by a guy named Steve Freking. Here’s an excerpt:

I don’t know any other way to say this: I hate abortion. I truly believe that almost all of us, in our hearts, do.  Even those who claim to be in favor of it want it to be “rare.” I hate what it has done to people I love. I hate even more what it has done to those I will never meet. I hate what it has done to our humanity and our world.

I hate that for more than 40 years, the women I love and the people that I will never know have been used as political pawns by two parties in their respective efforts to do nothing more than garner votes for some politician, at best, or control the population in some inhumane defense of our supposed economic or social interests, at worst.

I don’t hate it because of any allegiance to a political party platform. I don’t hate it because I am Catholic. I don’t hate it because I hate women. I don’t hate it because I don’t believe in personal freedom or choice.

I hate abortion for many reasons and they have names —  Steve, Judy, Laurie, Marian, Kyle, Desiree, Sarah, Stephanie, Kelsie, Samantha, Camron, AJ, Haley, Jordan and so, so many more. I hate it even more because of the names that none of us will ever know, that I can hardly bear to think about.

But I do know this: Every choice has a name.

You can read the rest online at the Register’s website.

Oh my!  I have goosebumps and tears at the same time.  The ending line was – what word do I use – poignant.

We only get the paper on Sundays anymore, and I am not good at surfing the website, so very much appreciate when you send these.

I am still sitting here shaking my head.  He is so matter of fact, down to earth, speaking the truth.  God bless him so much for having the strength to send this, and to the editors to print it.  I’m sure the latter just wants to stir the pot, but maybe, just maybe, down deep, the person or persons who decided agree.

God bless you in this ministry. Diane PS – Happy Birthday (again!)

Yes, it was a powerful piece. And the editor of the DM Reg said he is going to publish a pro life response to the Register’s pro abortion editorial from Iowans for Life. I’ll let you know when it hits.

Powerful post. I do hate abortion, because some of those with a name could have been the ones who would eventually find the cure for cancer, and/or other maladies. We have been denied this probability, and if not for it, who knows how many would have been cured. We will never know.
