Are we made in the image of “carbon dioxide”?

450 pound ape

A four year old boy falls into a gorilla exhibit. Straddling him is a 450 pound gorilla with the strength of Superman.

What do you do?

I have a four year old grandson. For me, it’s a no brainer. You kill the animal to protect the human being, which is exactly what officials at the Cincinnati Zoo did when this happened the other day.

They killed the animal to protect the boy.

Quicker than you could say King Kong, animal rights activists were screaming over the senseless loss of life of an ape. Many were convinced that the ape wouldn’t have harmed the boy.

Some 300,000 people signed a petition demanding that authorities arrest the parents for allowing this sad event to happen.

Vigils were held for the fallen ape.

Here’s the thing: there has been no apathy demonstrated towards the loss of life of an animal at the same time that there is much cultural apathy towards the loss of human life.

Abby Johnson reminded us of a shocking story torn from the pages of the New York Times back in 1964.

[Ms. Johnson is the former director of a Planned Parenthood Clinic in Texas. After

Abby Johnson

Abby Johnson

witnessing an abortion, she had a dramatic change of heart, left Planned Parenthood, and became a proponent for the sanctity of human life. She spoke here in Des Moines at the Catholic Pastoral Center a few years ago.]

She reminded us of the brutal murder of Kitty Genovese in Queens, New York. Returning home late at night, Ms. Genovese was attacked by a stranger. Her cries for help went unheeded by neighbors.

The attacker left her in the bushes, only to return 30 minutes later to rape and finish her off.

A New York Times story said countless people heard her cries. No one offered to help. No one called the police. The woman died.

People didn’t want to get involved. This craven apathy toward human life disturbed our nation.

Ms. Johnson compares the apathy of those in Queens with the apathy so many in our country have toward the unborn. Are we doing the same thing today, only on a much larger scale? After all, says Ms. Johnson, 4000 babies in the womb are aborted each day in America.

Their deaths are so tragic because they don’t come at the hands of a homicidal nutcase. They come at the hands of licensed physicians. They die because their lives are considered expendable. The aborted, in fact, have had no choice in the ending of their life.

Dennis Prager

Our country’s attitude toward human life has become terribly skewed. West Coast radio talk show host, Dennis Prager, tells an interesting story to illuminate the point.

He’s been speaking to high school seniors for over 30 years. He has asked them the following question: if you were forced to save a drowning stranger or your beloved pet dog, and there’s only time to save one, who would you save?

Consistently, two-thirds vote against the human being.

Our Judeo-Christian value system has been gradually replaced by a secular humanistic value system. The latter values human life less than the former.

Prager puts it this way: the Judeo-Christian system views man as being created in the image of God; secular-humanism views us as being made in the image of carbon dioxide, so a boy, a dog, or an ape have equal moral value.

Abby Johnson bought into the secular humanism view of human life. She had two abortions herself. It took seeing a baby in the womb killed during a late-term abortion to awaken her sense of humanity.

She realized there’s more to human life than just carbon dioxide.

But let me ask you, who would you save? The stranger or the dog? The ape or the boy?

Why?

If it’s the stranger, is human life so special? Is it less special in the womb?

How was it ever even a question? Of course, a human life is infinitely worth more than an animals’.

Oh you Christian conservatives are so sentimental. 😉

What I want to know is what makes the ape’s life more valuable than the human’s in the mind of the Liberals? The only way it would be acceptable to sacrifice the child’s life in favor of the ape’s is if somehow the ape’s life is more valuable.

Look, one of them was going to have to die. The choice of which one needed to be based on which was more valuable to have alive.

It’s crazy making that they think the animal should have been tranquillized. Most of the zoo officials are animal geeks too. The only difference is that they know what they’re doing. They wouldn’t have harmed the gorilla if they didn’t need to. It was the only option.

You, of course, are correct, Oliver. Liberal elites think they know more than the rest of us, including more than zoo officials who work with animals day in and day out.

Great read! I agree we live in an age where our society’s views are skewed.

We are so sentimental. Lol. I was listening to Larry Elder, in CA, a fellow radio host personality, just like Dennis Prager. He asked an animal rights activist the following. “If your baby girl falls in the water, which is quite deep, and a dog falls also, which one would you save.” The guy stated, “that’s a difficult question.” Larry cut off the guy’s mike. It’s an upside down world. That’s why abortion is running rampant. Liberals place a much higher value on animals, than on humans.

Yes, human life isn’t valued by way to many folks.
