In praise of dissenting Protestants

I don’t understand how any Catholic serious about their faith could vote for Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Ms. Clinton and her party are not pro choice, they are pro abortion. Any party that gives a roaring round of applause to a speaker who boasts about the abortion of her child is an enemy of all things Catholic.

This brings me to each party’s pick for VP.

Tim Kaine, Dem’s choice for VP, by all counts is a good man and a good Catholic. Like Joe Biden, also a Catholic, he claims to be pro life, as the Church claims one must be to truly be Catholic.

And yet Senator Kaine embraces his party’s pro abortion platform, including their call to repeal the Hyde Amendment. What a disconnect for a man who earns his living as a politician. It would be like a pornographer who says that, “while I’m personally opposed to porn, I can’t stand in the way of other people viewing it,” as he cashes his paycheck.

Let’s say it. Kaine is a hypocrite.

What about the pro life Mike Spence, the GOP’s VP pick? He was raised as a Roman Catholic. He left the Church in college because he disagreed with some fundamental teachings of the Church.

I respect Pence. He disagreed with the Church, left it, but supports its teachings in the public square.

I don’t respect Kaine’s approach. He claims to agree with the Church, but opposes its fundamental teaching in the public square.

Writing in the Wall Street Journal, Catholic priest, Fr. Robert Sirico, contrasts the two VP nominees:

“While painful for me to hear as a priest, it [Pence’s decision to leave the Catholic Church] represents a certain honesty. Having found himself in disagreement with some of the church’s fundamental teaching, Mr. Pence accepted that he was no longer in communion with it. He didn’t pretend that he was, nor did he twist the church’s rules to conform to his own worldview.

There was an old joke that made the rounds in seminaries some years ago: What’s the difference between a dissenting Catholic and a Protestant? The Protestant has integrity.”

It’s a sad time…so many who profess Christ don’t truly have a clue who He is. Also very sad is that so many who attend church these days are taught a “keep the congregation coming back” type of sermon. I pray God meet them right where they are and open their eyes BEFORE they vote for Clinton. Sigh.

Amen, Ms. Lorra B. Thanks for writing, and keep praying for the little guy in the womb.

“The Protestant has integrity”. Wow- just wow.

As a homeschooler in the south, I “hang” with a lot of Protestants. As a Catholic, I don’t agree with their beliefs, but at least they BELIEVE, and LIVE BY their beliefs!

I can’t even trust my kids to the religious education program at our parish. What is their success rate? How many of their “graduates” go on to actually live the faith with all that they are – beyond confirmation?

As parents, our NUMBER ONE goal is that our kids will remain Catholic and live their lives according to God’s will. How many Catholics are living their lives with that same goal? I know there are some; when I find them I feel an early heaven.

One of the many fears I have about a Hillary presidency is that people will think this VP is a true Catholic. There are already enough misconceptions about the Catholic Church without representatives like this guy. We don’t need him.
