The elitists shan’t be missed

We’ve heard this threat before.

The meme above shows a few of the many liberal elitists who threatened to leave this country if Donald Trump won. If they were to actually carry through on their threat, which they won’t, our country will do just fine without them.

But I have such a different take on the thought process behind such a comment. When my candidate has lost, which has happened many times in my voting life, I want to redouble my efforts to promote my religious and political philosophy in my sphere of influence in the hope of a different outcome in the next election cycle.

Liberal elitists have the luxury of packing up their mansions and moving to Switzerland or Canada or Australia until things blow over, but rank and file working class Americans don’t. Besides, we think this country’s founding value system of immutable rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness are worth fighting for.

I read an interesting letter in the Wall Street Journal this week sent in by a Midwesterner by the name of Bob Dekker. He had an interesting take on these elitists who tell the Silent Majority how they’re supposed to think:

“Elites aren’t the problem; rather it’s the political elitists and their brethren, the self-anointed cultural elite, who are most deserving of our invective.

Legitimate elites, having achieved their elevated status through talent, education, meritocratic wealth accumulation or a combination thereof, are worthy of admiration.

Genuine elites lead by example; elitists prefer to lecture. Elites use their powers of persuasion to get what they want; elitists use coercion.

Elites are recognized as such by others; elitists confer their status upon themselves. Ronald Reagan was certainly a member of the elite but governed as a populist. Conversely, Barack Obama is an elitist who panders to populist notions.

Forget liberal or conservative. After eight years of elitist governance, is it any wonder that Donald Trump rode a populist wave to win the presidential election? It remains to be seen how that electoral strategy translates into a cohesive governing philosophy.”

Let the elitists flee the land of the free. We wish them well, even if they shan’t be missed.

Good post. I like the distinction between Elite and Elitist. I think it is an accurate distinction to make on today’s national environment and the players.

May i offer my services in helping these folks pack their bags? I’ll be super gentle w/ their items. I can even give a ride to the airport if needed. Snack $$ is even possible. Anyone else willing to help? We may need help w/ dog walking and plant watering. Lets get a list started.
