How to defeat the culture of death: education 2

By Tom Quiner

[I’ve been out of the blogging loop for a few days in preparation of Christmas fundraising gala I host for a pro life group, Iowans for Life. Here are my remarks from last night’s event:]

unspecified-1

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is With thee.

Blessed art thou among women,

And blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners,

Now, and at the hour of our death.

Thank-you all for being here as we celebrate the dignity of human life from conception to natural death.

The beautiful Hail Mary which we just shared reminds us of many things.

Mary is praying for us and with us.

She is petitioning Her Son to intercede on behalf of the most vulnerable among us.

And how does Her Son, Jesus, answer our prayers?

One way is by inspiring us to act on behalf of all of our brothers and sisters, and especially for those who can’t fend for themselves.

You know, Mary said YES to life, but the culture says no.

It says NO to life if it is inconvenient.

As a result, some 59 million unique human persons have been disposed of via human abortion since the passage of Roe v Wade some 43 years ago.

Saint Mother Teresa of Calcutta told us that peace begins in the womb.  We must continue to oppose the forces at work waging war on the baby in the womb.

There are many ways we can do it.  One is education.

Many people don’t understand what is at stake, especially when they’re told that the unique, one-of-a-kind person in the womb, you know, the one who might figure out how to cure cancer some day, is merely a clump of cells.

We can stop this brain drain and this relentless erosion of human dignity by redoubling our efforts to teach.

That’s what Iowans for Life does.  Teach.

They speak at 40 to 50 events each year.

They run billboards.

They write articles.  You’ve seen Maggie Dewitte, IFL’s Executive Director, in the Des Moines Register.

They connect with thousands of people at the Iowa State Fair.

They hand out 3000 teen bags at the Fair.  The only reason they don’t do more is they don’t have enough money.

They’re galvanizing armies of our youth to join the pro life cause by taking them on the March for Life in Washington DC.

This is the type of group Iowans for Life is.

They’re changing the world by saving lives by teaching, teaching, teaching.

Holy Trinity’s Respect Life Group supports their cause.  That’s why we put this event on, to help them raise a few more dollars to evangelize the cause of human dignity to another young woman or man who needs to hear it.

On behalf of Holy Trinity’s Respect Life Group, on behalf of Iowans for Life, could you help us reach another 1000 kids at this year’s State Fair?

Our ambassadors are fanning out with a pink envelope.  When they bring it to your table, could you support the cause of life with a check or some cash?

As I look out at this great group, I know so many of you are already giving in some capacity.  All I can say is thank-you, and Mary thanks you, and Jesus thanks you.

Can you give more tonight?  If the Spirit moves you, please do.

Every single dollar helps.

Every single dollar makes a difference.

Thank-you, and God bless.

[To readers of this blog, I wish you could have been at this event last night. It truly was a celebration of Life and the Christmas season. No, we’re not afraid to say the word Christmas! If you’d like to support the cause of Life, please support Iowans for Life right here. THANK-YOU!]
