Individual freedom is priceless

By Tom Quiner

The growing risk of American liberalism is its tilt towards socialism.

Among other things, socialism erodes the soul. Someone who would know is former world chess champion, Garry Kasparov, who lived the old Soviet Union and Russia before being voluntarily exiled to New York for personal safety under the Putin regime.

Writing in the Wall Street Journal, he captures the risk of socialism succinctly:

Garry Kasparov

“The story of human progress is striving, dreaming and sacrificing for a better future. Instead of believing that happy, successful individuals make for a successful society, socialism insists that a perfectly functioning system will produce happy individuals. When the system comes first, the individual becomes an afterthought. When the system fails, individuals are blamed for not surrendering to it enough. Recovering from a regime that restricts individual freedom is far easier than recovering from one that teaches that individual freedom is worthless.”

These days it is more than worthless. It is TERRIFYING!! People don’t think they can do anything for themselves anymore. Tell them the buses won’t run and a rotten to the core school system will close, and they have no idea WHAT they’ll do. They have built their entire lives around using public services. If something changes, they can’t figure out how to complete the mission of the day. Problem solving is a lacking skill these days. It sounds like I’m too harsh, but I teach these folks. The bus and the schools determine if they can get to class or not. For some it’s dumber. The phone was not functioning, and they didnt know how they would see the latest from friends; so they stay home with the computer to get any tweets or photos that might be sent via email system.
