The national divide explained

By Tom Quiner

Common ground no longer exists.

The Left no longer embraces what used to be traditional American values, but the Right does. In other words, it is the political Left that is aggressively pulling this country in a direction it doesn’t want to go. And when they lose, they simply say that their opponent, who is Donald Trump (this time), is illegitimate.

They said the same thing of George W. Bush in 2000. Some things never change.

Conservative radio talk show host and political columnist, Dennis Prager, wrote an ingenious piece today that offers a “Guide to Basic Differences Between Left and Right” in this country.

It captures the reason why it is nearly impossible for a wide swath of our country, people like me, to vote Democrat.

It helps explain why Democrats have been losing so many elections since a leftist president, Barack Obama, took office. Leftism is practically a religion, and Prager points out the differences between its rabid adherents … and the rest of us. Here are a few:

Source of Human Rights

Left: government

Right: the Creator

Human Nature

Left: basically good (Therefore, society is primarily responsible for evil.)

Right: not basically good (Therefore, the individual is primarily responsible for evil.)

Primary Role of the State

Left: increase and protect equality

Right: increase and protect liberty

Family Ideal

Left: any loving unit of people

Right: a married father and mother, and children

Guiding Trinity

Left: race, gender and class

Right: liberty, In God We Trust and e pluribus unum

Good and Evil

Left: relative to individual and/or society

Right: based on universal absolutes

How to Make a Good Society

Left: abolish inequality

Right: develop each citizen’s moral character

Most Important Trait to Cultivate in a Child

Left: self-esteem

Right: self-control

I encourage you to read Mr. Prager’s entire piece. It’s a quick, easy read. Even more, bookmark it, so you can reread it time and time again.

It’s that good.

This piece explains why I voted for a man like Donald Trump who exhibited so many character qualities I find loathsome. His overall philosophy aligns more with the Right than the Left, whereas Hillary Clinton’s philosophy is lockstep with the destructive leftist ideology Mr. Prager so succinctly explains.

This is why the nation is so divided. The leftist philosophy is more at home in a place like Cuba than the United States.
