It’s only recent history that everyone thinks they need to see the doc AT LEAST 3-4 times a yr (even when young and healthy). People used to just take care of ordinary illnesses and injuries. I was 18 in April, graduated high school in early June, and was IMMEDIATELY kicked off my mom’s insurance at Ga. Tech. I was off insurance for just over a yr when i joined the military. I dont recall it being some terrifying time in my life. I did go to the ER once for stomach problem and bought a round of RXs. It WASNT shattering. Moms used to know how to handle a cold/flu at home. Costs of EVERY aspect of care skyrocketed w/ the introduction of the idea of insurance paying for EVERYTHING. No one felt the need to think twice about an office visit or yet another RX in the cabinet for just about anything you can imagine. We need to get rid of the idea that everyone needs a cadillac plan. I hope we can go back to more choices, and I’d love to not have to file a gvt form to get a subsidy to be able to afford the minimum coverage I want. I think they are determined to keep the gvt involved in helping everyone afford the plan of choice.
