Callista Gingrich heading to the Vatican

By Tom Quiner

The New York Times reports that Callista Gingrich, Newt Gingrich’s wife, is Donald Trump’s pick to be the next U.S. ambassador to the Vatican.

Ms. Gingrich is a cradle Catholic who attended college at Luther College here in Iowa. She and her husband co-produced a wonderful documentary on Pope John Paul II called, “9 days that changed the world.” Take a few minutes and watch the trailer above.

The documentary is so awesome, that my wife and I rented a movie theater here in Des Moines a few years ago and screened it to our Catholic community.

I encourage you to get it and watch it. It tells the story of JPII’s trip to Poland in 1979 that set the stage for the fall of communism in Eastern Europe.

I’m a fan of the Gingrich’s collectively, warts and all. Will Ms. Gingrich be a good ambassador? I pray so, for the U.S. and the Vatican need to be on the same side in this messy world.

“Jesus Christ promised that the gates of Hell would not prevail against His church, but He did not promise that Hell would not prevail against His church in the West. That depends on us, and the choices we make right here, right now.” -Rod Dreher, author of The Benedict Option
