Which is a Class 1 carcinogen: cigarettes or the Pill? Reply

By Tom Quiner

Nancy Pelosi banned smoking from the Speaker’s Lobby when she was Speaker of the House. She did it for the sake of her staff based on scientific research, said the Congresswoman in 2007:

Causes cancer.

“Medical science has unquestionably established the dangerous effects of secondhand smoke, including an increased risk of cancer and respiratory diseases. I am a firm believer that Congress should lead by example. The days of smoke-filled rooms in the United States Capitol are over.”

Ms. Pelosi has a point. After all, tobacco is a Group 1 carcinogen according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

However, Ms. Pelosi has no such qualms regarding another Group 1 carcinogen, oral contraceptives, also known as “the Pill.” WHO classified the Pill as Group 1 carcinogen in 2005.

The Mayo Clinic Proceedings published a comprehensive meta-analysis on the impact of the Pill on women’s health, and it was scary. They reported that women who took the pill before the birth of their first child sustained a 44% average increased risk of developing pre-menopausal breast cancer. The risk rose to 52% for women who took the Pill at least four years prior the birth of their first child.

And yet Nancy Pelosi unleashed a wailing and gnashing of teeth of biblical proportions in a recent press release regarding the Pill:

“President Trump’s sickening plan to roll back women’s access to

contraception would deny millions of women access to basic, preventative health care.  The draft rule announced today attempts to tear away women’s control over their own private health decisions and put that control in the hands of employers and politicians.

From the moment that President Trump entered the Oval Office, he has launched a campaign against women, cynically appointing an anti-birth control lobbyist to lead federal family planning efforts and reinstating an expanded global gag rule that denies millions of vulnerable women access to basic health care services worldwide.  This dangerous decision is the latest – but certainly not the last – assault on women’s rights from the White House.

Unfortunately, instead of standing up to the President, House Republicans are systematically dismantling women’s access to health care with their disastrous Trumpcare bill, numerous restrictions on how women can spend private dollars in purchasing health insurance and cuts to access to the Title X family planning program.  Every woman has the right to make her own intimate health decisions – and Democrats will never stop fighting to defend that right.”

The pill kills. If a woman want to take it, she should pay for it herself. Don’t make taxpayers complicit in her assault on her reproductive health.

When Planned Parenthood isn’t killing babies in the womb, they are dispensing contraceptives that harm women’s reproductive health.

Democrats like Ms. Pelosi want taxpayers to pick up the tab to fund one attack after another on women’s health via their Planned Parenthood surrogates.

Don’t fall for it.

If she and her associates in the Democratic Party sincerely cared about women’s reproductive health, they’d shut down Planned Parenthood before you could say Gloria Marie Steinem.
