Stand up to the thugs

By Tom Quiner

Matt Walsh is a gifted conservative commentator.

The Twitter exchange above is instructive. A young leftist name Ashley lectures a Black woman on how racist Matt Walsh is, even though the Black woman points out that Mr. Walsh is her friend.

Nuance is gone in political discourse, as is honor, with the political left. If you don’t agree with them, you are a “xenophobic, sexist, bigot” who will be cut off from your friends, family, and potentially your job.

A black woman, Carol M. Swain, wrote in the Wall Street Journal today how damaging these types of smears can be to conservatives. The ultra leftist Southern Poverty Law Center has taken to identifying various conservative groups as “hate” groups.

In 2009, Ms. Swain pointed out the SPL’s double standard by ignoring the voter intimidation tactics used by the New Black Panther Party in Philadelphia. Ms. Swain boldly, and accurately, asserted:

“Rather than monitoring hate groups, the Southern Poverty Law Center has become one.”

For that, the SPL set out to ruin her, loudly proclaiming:

“ Carol Swain is an apologist for white supremacists.”

Their smears were effective, said Ms. Swain:

“Being targeted by the SPLC has had a lasting impact on my life and career. Offers from other universities ended and speaking opportunities declined. Once you’ve been smeared in this way, mainstream news outlets are less likely to cite you as an expert of any kind.”

The Left will continue their takeover of the levers of power in this country as long as their intimidation tactics work.

Ms. Swain and Mr. Walsh are to be commended for fearlessly standing up to these thugs.
