Irony alert: Academy Awards protected by armed guards with assault rifles

By Tom Quiner

While the smug elites lectured flyover state peons like you and me about the evil of guns at the Academy Awards, it turns out they were well fortified with assault rifles.

Why? Protection. Look at the photo above. They even have bomb sniffing bomb dogs at their beck and call.

A rapper lectures us

The singer, Common, lectured us in rap verse about guns during his Academy Awards performance:

“Tell the NRA they’re in God’s way and to the people of Parkland we say asé.”

[For the record, asé is a word from the West African language, Yoruba, which means ‘the power to make things happen.’]

Guns are good to protect Hollywood elites, but not our kids in our schools.

Jimmy Kimmel lectures us

Last week, Jimmy Kimmel demanded of President Trump:

“Tell your buddies in Congress, tell Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell and Marco Rubio — all the family men who care so much about their communities — that what we need are laws, real laws that do everything possible to keep assault rifles out of the hands of people who are going to shoot our kids. Go on TV and tell them to do that.”

The implication is that school shootings are the fault of Trump (but shootings during Obama’s watch weren’t his fault); Trump’s Republican “buddies,” and the NRA.

IRONY ALERT!

Ironically, Democrats never changed any gun laws when they had control of the White House and Congress.

Ironically, in 2013, sixteen Democrats voted against reinstating a ban on assault rifles, effectively killing the legislation.

Ironically, it was an anti-Trump FBI that let the Parkland shooter slip through the cracks.

Ironically, it was a Democratic sheriff in Broward County who was called to the shooter’s home not one dozen times, not two dozen, but more than three dozen times who failed to intercede and protect the community from this unstable man.

Ironically, it was the Democratic sheriff’s deputies who failed to enter the school for four minutes, letting the shooter kill more kids.

And ironically, it was Barack Obama’s more lenient school policies that even let the killer get his hands on guns in the first place. Writing in Real Clear investigations, Paul Sperry’s comprehensive investigation into the Parkland shooting concluded:

Despite committing a string of arrestable offenses on campus before the Florida school shooting, Nikolas Cruz was able to escape the attention of law enforcement, pass a background check and purchase the weapon he used to slaughter three staff members and 14 fellow students because of Obama administration efforts to make school discipline more lenient.

Was Obama’s soft-on-discipline approach a factor? It is surely worthy of discussion, since it was imposed on the country by a single man, Barack Obama. What does the rest of the country think in light of Parkland? Read the link for more background.

In the meantime, liberal elites like Jimmy Kimmel are protected at the Oscars, their television studios, their movie lots, and their gated communities by guards armed to the teeth with assault rifles.

In the meantime, people die because of the incompetence of their “buddies.”

Ironic, isn’t it?
