1. I just so happened to go book shopping this morning. Bought a 6 volume set, “The Decline and Fall of The Roman Empire”- Gibbon, as well as “A Discourse on Method”-Descartes, and “Emotional Virtue” by Sarah Swafford.

I’ve already read “Emotional Virtue” and can recommend it so highly that the 10 copies I bought today are to pass on to others. If the budget allowed, I would have bought 20. My daughter read it, my husband read it, I’ve recommended it to all my friends and I’m giving one to my parents so they’ll understand our approach.

Currently reading C. S. Lewis’ “Out of the Silent Planet”. Science fiction isn’t my favorite and this is far from my favorite Lewis work (Mere Christianity comes in at #1). But- I look forward to finishing so I can try to grasp his message; I know it’s there.

Listened to these audio books last week:
“Be a Man: Becoming the Man God Created You to Be” by Fr. Larry Richards (I’m not a man, but we’re raising two of them)
“Extreme Makeover: Women Transforned by Christ, Not Conformed to the Culture” by Teresa Tomeo.

Other recents are “Jane Eyre”- Bronte, “Animal Farm”-Orwell, “Night” -Wiesel and Hero Education”- DeMille. The fact that I can’t think of any others tells me: I need to choose a book!

Incidentally, I am a homeschool mom trying to redeem my own public school and California State University education, so I don’t fit the statistics.

    • You make a powerful case for home schooling. Very impressive list. I read “Out of the Silent Planet” years ago and enjoyed it. I floundered with “Perelanda,” the follow up book. Sounds like I better get a copy of “Emotional Virtue.” Thanks for writing. Let me know if you read any good books in the near future. 🙂
