The latest victim of political correctness 2

By Tom Quiner

Juan Williams has been fired by National Public Radio for being politically incorrect.

Wikipedia defines political correctness as …

“a term which denotes language, ideas, policies, and behavior seen as seeking to minimize social and institutional offense in occupational, gender, racial, cultural, sexual orientation, disability, and age-related contexts.”

A simpler definition is “liberal thought-control.” Mr. Williams, himself a liberal, was fired for expressing a thought with which 99% of America agrees:

“I mean, look, Bill [O’Reilly], I’m not a bigot. You know the kind of books I’ve written about the civil rights movement in this country. But when I get on a plane, I got to tell you, if I see people who are in Muslim garb and I think, you know, they’re identifying themselves first and foremost as Muslims, I get worried. I get nervous.”

Mr. Williams commented on the remarks made by the Times Square bomber Faisal Shahzad:

“He said the war with Muslims, America’s war is just beginning, first drop of blood. I don’t think there’s any way to get away from these facts.”

NPR alleges that Mr. William’s comment is bigoted. It is?

Do you remember a remark Jesse Jackson made back in the 80s, something to the effect that if he saw a young black man walking up behind him on a darkened street, he’d be worried. Mr Jackson spoke the obvious. Young black men commit a disproportionate percentage of crimes in this county. Commentators appreciated his honesty. But Mr. Jackson himself is African-American. That made it acceptable to the thought-police.

I frequently disagree with Mr. Williams. But he got a bum deal on this one.

Why do you think the mainstream media is losing viewers, readers, and listeners? Because their audience doesn’t trust them because they know they’re getting a filtered message, one filtered by political correctness.

Who suffers most from hate crimes in the USA: Muslims or Jews? 4

By Tom Quiner

Chart by Randall Hoven, the American Thinker

It was just a one paragraph blurb in yesterday’s Des Moines Register: four men in New York City were convicted of plotting to blow up synagogues in New York.

I read the paragraph searching for a key piece of information. Can you guess what it was? What would you like to know about these anti-semitic terrorist wannabes?

The answer is motivation. The answer couldn’t be found in the Register’s five sentence coverage. In search of why four men wanted to blow up synagogues (note the plural), I went to the New York Times for additional insights.

The Times’ reporter on this story, Kareem Fahim, focused on the Defense’s claim that the four men were entrapped by the FBI in a sting. It wasn’t until the 10th paragraph that Mr. Fahim revealed that the charged (and now convicted men) were arrested after the FBI infiltrated a mosque. The word Muslim was not used in the news report.

Is this word relevant?

In light of 9/11, the answer is yes.

In light of the Christmas day “shoe” bomber, the answer is yes.

In light of the Fort Hood massacre, the answer is yes.

In light of the attempted Time Square bombing, the answer is yes.

Muslim terrorists want to kill Americans. These terrorists obviously do not represent all Muslims. They may only represent a small percentage.

But political correctness seems to block this critical piece of news reporting. The USA Today said on September 13, 2001:

“Arab-Americans and Muslims fear backlash” after the 2001 9/11 attacks in the US.”

The London Guardian said in July 8th, 2005 after Islamic terrorists killed 56:

“Muslim leaders fear backlash.”

After Islamic terrorists killed 195 in India in 2008, the Muslim Public Affairs Council said:

“The Muslim Public Affairs Council today sent a letter to the Bush administration and the Obama transition team expressing concern about a potential backlash that could be triggered in the wake of terrorist attacks in Mumbai.”

After Nidal Hasan murdered 13 women and men at Fort Hood and wounded another 30, but before his motivations were know, Islam Online said:

“As fears of a backlash are going high among US Muslims, President Barack Obama urged Americans Saturday, November 7, not to jump into conclusions over a deadly attack on a military base in Texas, stressing the diversity of the US army.”

You can understand the concern Muslims have that a backlash might occur in light of the number of innocent people Muslim terrorists kill each year in American and around the world. This leads to an interesting question: which group do you think is the victim of more hate crimes in the United States each year? Muslims or Jews?

The FBI tracks hate crimes. The chart above gives the answer. Jews are victims of ten times as many hate crimes as Muslims. Interestingly, this is not newsworthy to the Mainstream Media (MSM). What is newsworthy is the fear of reprisals against Muslims.

Why are anti-semitic hate crimes of such little interest to the MSM?

Wendy Greuel: "I'm disappointed ..."

I’d like to introduce you to Wendy Greuel, the Los Angeles City Controller. She issued a press release on Thursday with this headline:

“City controller releases audits of how Los Angeles has used federal stimulus money.  $111 million in ARRA Funds has only created 55 jobs so far.”

ARRA  stands for American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, or to the layman, stimulus funds. Ms. Greuel is a Democrat. What is remarkable is her candor:

“DPW has received $70.65 million and created or retained 45.46 jobs, though they are expected to create 238 jobs overall (the fraction of a job created or retained correlates to the number of actual hours worked).  LADOT has been awarded $40.8 million and created or retained 9 jobs, though they are expected to create 26 jobs overall.  Overall, the Departments have received $111 million in federal stimulus funds out of the $594 million the City has been awarded so far and created or retained 54.46 jobs.”

Notice the precision of her numbers.  She has calculated the job creation (or lack thereof) down to the percentage of a job. Ms. Greuel should be commended for her politically-incorrect honesty:

“I’m disappointed that we’ve only created or retained 55 jobs after receiving $111 million in ARRA funds.  With our local unemployment rate over 12% we need to do a better job cutting the red tape and putting Angelenos back to work. While it doesn’t appear that any of the ARRA funds were misspent, the City needs to do a better job expediting the process and creating jobs.  We’re going to continue to audit how these funds are spent, to ensure that they are expended quickly and correctly.  I’m pleased that since our auditors completed their field work, the Departments have begun to implement the changes we identified to help get this money out the door faster.”

Nonetheless, Ms.Greuel doesn’t blame the concept of top-down stimulus dollars, only its implementation. From her perspective, the answer is to cut red tape and get the dollars out the door more quickly.

Here’s the bottom line: the Democrats took $111 million of our dollars and created 55 jobs.  That calculates out to $2 million per job.

Christine O'Donnell: "... a rowdy revolution of reason."

The goal was to create 264 jobs, which still calculates out to a ridiculous $420,454 per job.

What’s wrong with this picture?

The insanity of profligacy by our elected officials explains the “rowdy revolution of reason”, also known as the Tea Party Movement. By the way, I attribute the quote to Christine O’Donnell, the upstart primary winner in Delaware who the media and Republican establishment are so quick to dismiss.

I’m not so sure I’d be so quick to dismiss candidates with the Tea Party behind them in light of the inane waste of tax payer money in Los Angeles.

Assassination attempt on Pope Benedict XVI foiled 4

By Tom Quiner

Terrorist plot against Pope Benedict XVI?

Five men were arrested in London early this morning accused of plotting an attack on Pope Benedict XVI. This is a big, breaking story. Details will be unfolding today. What is interesting is how CNN and Fox News’ websites have treated the story.

CNN’s headline is:  “Arrests amid pope’s visit to London.”

We don’t know what the arrests are about. Are they simply rowdy protesters? The word ‘pope’ is printed in lowercase, a way of downplaying the significance of the title. Lowercase is used throughout the news report.

Fox News’ headline is:  “Five Men Arrested in UK Over Potential Threat to Pope.”

Their headline suggest violence was intended.

CNN’s report leads with a paragraph about the sex abuse scandal. The second paragraph acknowledges that five men were arrested on suspicion of terrorism. Immediately, the reader wants to know who the terrorists are?  The report doesn’t say. It immediately veers back to coverage of the sex abuse scandal.

Fox News leads with details about the arrests.  It gives the ages of the five men arrested.  It reports that the men were apparently of Arabic origin, a huge piece of news, omitted by CNN’s early coverage of this story.

The entire story in the Fox News report involved the terror threat, not the sex abuse scandal.

CNN seemed strangely disinterested in the threat on the Pope, but acutely interested in rehashing the abuse scandal.

Over at the DEBKAfile, an award-winning website recognized by Forbes Magazine as “best of the web,” their headline was stunning: “Al Qaeda threat to murder Pope foiled in London.”  This Jerusalem-based, English language website, gives even more information, that the men arrested were not British nationals, but in fact Algerians. As a side note, ‘Pope” was capitalized in their headline.

Al-Quaea plotted to assassinate Pope John Paul II in 1999.  As reported in the Times of London on November 11, 2002:

THE POPE has been told that the al-Qaeda terrorists who masterminded the September 11 attacks in the United States planned to assassinate him during his tour of the Philippines.

The attack never took place because the Pope [note the capitalization] called off the visit in 1999 through ill-health.

Islamic terrorists have an ongoing goal to kill the leader of the Christian world. Why does CNN downplay such a big story? In fairness, this is breaking news.  Perhaps they’re understaffed.  Perhaps their coverage will pick up as the day progresses.

Watch how the various media outlets cover (or don’t cover) this story.

In the meantime, pray for the safety of Pope Benedict as he travels into hostile territory.

“We’re not at war against Islam” 2

By Tom Quiner

Thus said the President:

“We are not at war against Islam. We are at war against terrorist organizations that have distorted Islam or falsely used the banner of Islam. If we’re going to deal with the problems Ed Henry was talking about – reducing the terrorist threat – we need all the allies we can get.”

Are we really at war against terrorism when the President sent the following directive to speech writers soon after his arrival at the White House:

“this administration prefers to avoid using the term Long War or Global War On Terror (Gwot) … please pass this on to your speechwriters”

The President prefers to call these efforts “overseas contingency operations.”

Contrast this rhetoric with that of former President Bush:

the war on terror “will not end until every terrorist group of global reach has been found, stopped and defeated”.

So, while the President manages our contingency operations overseas, it is fair to ask then, who exactly IS the enemy?  While we ponder that question, I will present some politically incorrect recent news, news that usually won’t see the light of day in the mainstream media (MSM):

Yesterday, in Yala, Thailand: Muslim separatists shoot a 52-year-old Buddhist in the head then kick his body under a bridge.

Yesterday, in Vladikavkaz, Russia:  A Shahid drives an explosives-laden vehicle into a market, blasting seventeen shoppers to bits.

Yesterday, in Mogadishu, Somalia:  Five Fedayeen suicide bombers storm an airport and kill nine others, including two women.

Yesterday, in Kurram, Pakistan: Militants murder ten bus passengers with an explosive device.

Yesterday, in Diyala, Iraq: A woman is beheaded in her own home by suspected al-Qaeda ‘insurgents’.

Yesterday, in Muqdadiya, India:  A cleric is beheaded and set on fire by “Freedom Fighters.”

The common link with yesterday’s mass murders:  they were committed in the name of the Islamic faith.

Carnage in the name of Allah is a daily occurrence around the world.

Could you imagine the outcry if this daily carnage was taking place in the name of Christ?

The political Left in this country and around the world hold the belief that somehow the Western world has brought on all of this carnage by our actions towards Muslims around the world.  Three experts refute the Left’s thesis.

These experts include the prophet Muhammad;  Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini; and Osama bin Laden.

Bin Laden expressed their shared vision this way:

“I was ordered to fight the people until they say ‘there is no god but Allah, and his prophet Muhammad.’ “

He didn’t limit the scope of the fight to Iraq or Afghanistan or Israel.  The Left implies that the root cause of terrorism is Western imperialism.  Bin Laden makes it clear through his rhetoric and Islamic violence throughout the world that this premise is false.  In fact, the exact opposite is true.  Muslim imperialism has led to attacks and deaths in India, Pakistan, Thailand, Somalia, Kenya, Russia, and Iraq  yesterday alone.   It is important to recognize that most Muslims reject Muslim imperialism.  It is equally important for the rest of the world to understand that Muslim imperialists want us to convert … or die.

Another leading voice of Islam was the Ayatolla Khomeini.  Here are his views on Israel:

“This regime occupying Jerusalem must vanish from the page of time.”

“If one permits an infidel to continue in his role as a corrupter of the earth, his moral suffering will be all the worse. If one kills the infidel, and this stops him from perpetrating his misdeeds, his death will be a blessing to him.”

Peace and coexistence are impossible with imperialist Muslims according to the Khomeini’s and Bin Laden’s of the world.  Mohammed himself said in the Koran 9:5:

“Fight and kill the disbelievers wherever you find them, take them captive, harass them, lie in wait and ambush them using every stratagem of war.”

What is the common thread with worldwide terrorism?  Islam.

The President says we’re not at war against Islam.  That may be true.  But then it’s fair to ask: is Islam at war with us?  Ask the families of the victims of 9/11.
