The era of economic martyrdom
By Tom Quiner
Liberalism is characterized by intolerance.
We’ve seen the tactics of the Left used far too often over recent decades. For example, if you disagree with the principle of reverse discrimination, euphemistically known as affirmative action, you are a bigot.
If you oppose human abortion, euphemistically known as women’s reproductive health, you are waging a war on women.
Now if you support traditional marriage, you may have to give up your livelihood.
We’ve all heard of wedding professionals who have lost lawsuits for refusing to participate in so-called gay marriages because of their religious beliefs. Keep in mind, almost without exception, these companies said they would be happy to provide their services to people with same-sex attractions for birthdays and about any other type of occasion. But not weddings, since their respective faith traditions proclaim a marriage as being between one man and one woman.
Liberal judges increasingly show their intolerance for the First Amendment and sanction business owners who publicly stand by their religious convictions.
The latest victim of the Left’s intolerance toward those who disagree with their definition of marriage is Mozilla CEO Brandon Eich. According to the moral theology of liberalism, Mr. Eich committed a mortal sin.
What did he do?
He contributed money to the successful Proposition 8 campaign in California that (temporarily) halted gay marriage in California a half a decade ago. His support of traditional marriage came to light and Mozilla staffers revolted.
Any views contrary to liberal theology will not be tolerated, despite Mr. Eich’s earnest declaration of tolerance to all:
“I am committed to ensuring that Mozilla is, and will remain, a place that includes and supports everyone, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, age, race, ethnicity, economic status, or religion.
You will see exemplary behavior from me toward everyone in our community, no matter who they are; and the same toward all those whom we hope will join, and for those who use our products. Mozilla’s inclusive health benefits policies will not regress in any way. And I will not tolerate behavior among community members that violates our Community Participation Guidelines or (for employees) our inclusive and non-discriminatory employment policies.”
None of this matters to the Left.
