Why you should be frightened

By Tom Quiner

Democrats view Trump as Hitler. Republicans view Hillary as Satan.

Nuance is lacking in this crass age. So is an educated citizenry, as you can see in the video above.

Students at Texas Tech University were asked three questions by a roving interviewer:

  1. Who won the Civil War.
  2. Who is the Vice President of the United States.
  3. From whom did we gain our independence?

Almost none knew the answers to any of these basic questions. It is fair to claim that I cannot imagine any member of the Baby Boom Generation, of which I am a member, not knowing the answers to any of these questions … from sixth grade on.

By the same token, all knew to whom Brad Pitt is married, and to whom he was married previously. All knew what television show someone named Snooki is on.

Why is this important? Because our very democracy depends on having an educated citizenry according to one of our Founding Fathers, Thomas Jefferson:

“An educated citizenry is a vital requisite for our survival as a free people.”

All of the students interviewed are college students. Do you wonder what these kids were being taught in their years in public school?

The students interviewed majored in psychology, sports management, human sciences, pre nursing, and political psychology.

If we had another Pearl Harbor type of attack today, would you feel confident in the abilities of these kids to step up to the plate like the Greatest Generation did? At least we could put the nursing skills to good use.

This brings me back to the first sentence of this post. What you or I think of either of these candidates is not as important as what we think of the ideology that animates their candidacy.

I’d like to focus on Hillary’s. It is better defined than The Donald’s.

Even more, the leftist agenda that animates Hillary Clinton has had total control of our public school system for decades. The teacher’s union has controlled the politically-correct  curriculum that has produced the Einsteins featured in the video above. The liberal ideology permeating public school curriculum promotes diversity, equality, and inclusion at the expense of American exceptionalism, freedom of expression, and critical thinking skills. They have successfully gutted schools of the animating principles of Judeo-Christian ethics and replaced it with secular-based moral relativism.

Conservatives are successfully fighting back with furious resistance from the left. We see the battle lines acutely drawn in that bastion of liberalism, New York City.

Charter schools in NYC are outperforming traditional public schools there. Blacks and Hispanics, in particular, are the beneficiaries. Those in charter schools score 73% higher than their peers in district-run schools.

New York’s ultra-liberal mayor, Bill de Blasio, leads the way in trying to stall the progress of charter schools, because the teachers union cannot control these schools. These unions poured some $19 million into Democratic coffers in the 2012 presidential race.

The American Federation of Teachers was one of the first union groups to come out in support of Hillary, who will support the status quo of educational and moral rot in our public schools.

With another four years of the dumbing down of America, the kids interviewed above may very well look like the cream of the crop.

That is very scary.

I have no idea who she is. I suspect I don’t care either.

This is why people like Donald Trump and Arnold “Get to the Chopper” Schwarzenegger get elected to leadership positions in America. Nobody knows who anyone else is.

In all fairness, that independence thing was a long time ago-before they were born, the VP isn’t worth remembering and maybe they know the Civil War as the War Between the States.

In all seriousness though, people SHOULD be frightened by this, as it affects us all. For those who want to learn more AND do what they can to stop this continuing decline, here are two things I can recommend:
    * read “The Dumbest Generation” by Mark Bauerlein
    * read this article on the Thomas Jefferson Education website. Following links in the article is recommended. https://www.tjed.org/2016/01/tjed-2/

We can all get involved. Parents, grandparents, community members and students all have a mission and lots of work to do. Let’s work to end this ignorance one person at a time.

Thanks for the response and the links, Lori. I love the way the article tries to talk you out of a Thomas Jefferson education. I look forward to reading it in its entirety.
