I heard a niece saying she was a great person. She had been taught to speak of herself by referring to herself by her own name. She just regurgitated a memorized message of her value as a person to me. I asked her to tell me how she knew she was a great person. She answered cuz she was nice. Now this girl would lie about being alive. She stole often and was involved in damaging a house we were building. She honestly didnt feel that any of what she did had anything to do w/ being a nice person or not and related greatness. She was 10 at the time. We as a society are not teaching our kids reality. Schools may teach what they do, but where are the parents when a kid spouts such nonsense? My mom would have reminded me of all my shortcoming and told me to fix them if I wanted to even be good…let alone great.

What a relevant, but sad example. Thanks for sharing it.
