A tale of two young ladies

Miley Cyrus promotes sex

Let me start with Miley Cyrus.

Hollywood has transformed this cute little girl into a sexpot. It’s the same old story: Make up. Sexy clothes. Hollywood values. Now at age 19, she is waxing eloquent about the joys of sex.

I, too, wax eloquent about the beauty or erotic love within the confines of marriage. But when Ms. Cyrus talks about how great sex is, she leaves the impression that she’s talking about conjugal bliss outside of marriage.

This young woman will influence thousands, make that tens of thousands, no make that hundreds of thousands impressionable girls with her comments:

“It’s the only way we create, and it’s the only way the world keeps going. So it’s ignorant not to talk to your kids about it or [not] make it seem as magical or cool as it actually is. [Kids] have a TV, so they know what sex is. So educate them and let them know it’s a beautiful thing, and it is magic, and it’s when you connect with somebody.”

I agree with everything she said to a point. But sex isn’t just something you do when you “connect” with someone, it is something you share with your spouse within the confines of marriage.

I know. Most of my readers think I’m old fuddy-duddy for talking this way.

Tough.

Dr. Meg Meeker, a pediatrician who wrote “Your Kids Are At Risk,” detailed the consequences of promiscuity being promoted by the Hollywood crowd. Here is the quick overview, according to Dr. Meeker:

  • 20 million Americans contract a new sexually transmitted infection every year in the US and about 50 % are in kids and young adults.
  • 1:5 people over age 12 tests positive for genital herpes
  • 1:4 teens (all teens- not just those having sex) get a sexually transmitted infection every year
  • HPV causes 99% of all cervical cancers and teen girls are more prone to getting cervical cancer if infected because of differences in their anatomy
  • 40% all girls 14-18 y/o state that they have sex that they don’t want to have because they don’t want to let their boyfriends down
  • According to a medical study released in Sept 2001, if we don’t dramatically change course (teach our kids to put the brakes on), by the year 2025 (how old will your grandchildren be?), 30 % of all men and 40% all women will test positive for genital herpes.
We’re in the middle of an epidemic.
This raises a question: can we change kids behavior?
Liberals say yes we can when it comes to smoking. They led the charge in creating a stigma surrounding smoking over the past forty some years with a relentless PR campaign, classes, courses, and support groups.
It works. Smoking has declined. Everyone except tobacco companies and their stockholders are happy about this.
Liberals say yes when it comes to bullying. We are in the early stages of a relentless anti-bullying crusade. Let us hope it works as well as the anti-smoking crusade.
But when it comes to teen sex, liberals say NO, you can’t prevent kids from having sex. Behavior can’t be changed. We need to provide them with free birth control.
Liberals are wrong.
The stakes are way to high to let our kids continue on this path of destruction.

Lolo Jones promotes chastity

This leads me to another young woman who talks differently than Miley Cyrus. I’m talking about Olympic track star, Lolo Jones. In an interview in today’s Des Moines Register, Ms. Jones talked about her virginity and her desire to remain chaste until her wedding night. Her story aired on ESPN on Monday.

Said Ms. Jones”
“It’s just something, a gift that I want to give to my husband.“
The 29 year old Olympian was candid on how difficult it is:
“If there’s virgins out there, I’m going to let them know, it’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life — harder than training for the Olympics, harder than graduating from college, has been to stay a virgin before marriage.”
Can you imagine if Miley Cyrus said the same thing?
What would happen if this trend overtook Hollywood celebs, and young stars professed their desire to remain chaste? Do you think their attitude would affect our youth?
How could it not? Our teen years are the most impressionable of our lives.
Shame on Hollywood and their liberal allies for participating in the corruption of our youth.
Kudos to Lolo Jones for standing up to them.
