The political danger to America
By Tom Quiner
“John Boehner is nothing but a country club Republican.”
This sentiment was expressed by Barack Obama in regard to the Speaker of the House. It encapsulates the risk we face should Mr. Obama win re-election. We will find ourselves mired in more political polarization while America rots.
For the record, John Boehner was one of eleven children. His father owned a bar. THIS is a country club Republican?
He and the president had shaken hands on a deal, a “grand bargain,” so to speak, to resolve the debt crisis. They had agreed on principles that have had a record of bi-partisan support, including a rewrite of the tax code to simplify it, a plan to slash deficits and reduce the cost of entitlements.
After shaking hands on the deal, Obama reneged. He came back demanding higher taxes and the deal collapsed.
This is the political environment that will continue with Barack Obama’s re-election. It is a reason why the Des Moines Register endorsed Mitt Romney. Keep in mind, the Register hadn’t endorsed a Republican since Richard Nixon in 1972. For them to pull their support from Obama reveals the breadth of his failure.
What will change if Obama wins?
Will his arrogance be mitigated or magnified?
It wasn’t mitigated by his party’s trouncing in the 2010’s mid term election. If anything, he will more likely be confident that he has a mandate to accelerate his push towards socialism. We’ll see more gridlock and more Executive Orders of questionable legality imposing his imperious will on each of us.
We will see more selective enforcement of our laws by the executive branch. We’ll see an expansion of judicial appointees who are quite comfortable legislating from the bench. Ultimately, we’ll see an erosion of our rights, beginning with those enshrined in the First Amendment.
Barack Obama’s sneering riposte directed at John Boehner reveals the essence of the Obama approach to governance: demonize your opponent; divide and conquer; destroy the domestic tranquility for the sake of ideology.
Even the Des Moines Register realizes the political danger to America with four more years of Barack Obama at the helm.
Barack Obama calling John Boehner a country club Republican is all George W. Bush’s fault.
Too, too funny!
I think what we are facing is pretty serious. That was magnified by Obama’s message to Putin, that he would have more “latitude” after the election. When this election is over, all bets are off. Obama will (try to) go wild with his progressivism and our country will suffer.
Republicans will keep the House. It’s unlikely we’ll take the Senate, but we really need to just in case Obama wins.
I would have given anything to see and hear the Obama Reich’s reaction to The Register’s snub!
Stephanie Cutter said they don’t live in reality. Is that rich, or what!
