Daniel Henninger, who writes the “Wonderland” column for the Wall Street Journal, characterizes the IRS scandal this way:

 “The IRS tea-party audit story isn’t Watergate; it’s worse than Watergate. The Watergate break-in was the professionals of the party in power going after the party professionals of the party out of power. The IRS scandal is the party in power going after the most average Americans imaginable.”

The mainstream media needs to treat this story with the same seriousness with which they treated Watergate.

Sadly, President Obama’s credibility is in a free fall. In fairness, every politician, conservative or liberal, is going to say things on the campaign trail that they simply can’t live up to. Sometimes they were blowing smoke in the first place. Sometimes, political realities get in the way.
