Ultrasound laws are currently in effect in 22 states, with five of those states requiring exactly what Iowa is considering. Why? Because, simply put, ultrasound laws save lives.
Performing an ultrasound before an abortion should be a commonsense standard of care for abortion providers. Ultrasound assists an abortion provider in determining gestational age. The farther along in pregnancy a woman is, or the possibility that the pregnancy is ectopic, the greater the risk that abortion poses.
Ultrasound is standard medical care. Most Planned Parenthood clinics perform an ultrasound before an abortion, including vaginal. Yet, scare tactics employed by the abortion lobby and Planned Parenthood, and fueled by the media, are being used to deceive the public, in particular women, claiming ultrasounds are “invasive”.
The facts are: viewing an image of her child before an abortion sways 90% of woman to reject abortion, which begs the question: Why, if Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers sincerely care about the health of women wouldn’t they be encouraging our legislators to pass this life-saving legislation instead of fighting tooth and nail to block it?
