Quiner’s Diner is reprinted in the Des Moines Register
By Tom Quiner
Thanks to the Des Moines Register for running our May 28th post on Charles Colson (“Iowa View: Colson was a prodigal son who deserves our forgiveness”).
Check it out online at the Des Moines Register website.
Well put, Tom.
Thank-you.
While Donald Kaul’s take on Mr.Colson’s passing felt unnecessarily mean-sprited, I found your response a bit simplistic.
There is a long standing alliterative aphorism that one often hears when the big house door slams shut: You can Fight, F#&k, or Find God.
I will not question Mr. Colson’s heart, but can’t help but feel that even after prison, and as a follower of Christ, he still practiced an Us versus Them politics.
While certainly not criminal, I found many of his actions and comments tribal. Further testimony to a type of politics and public discourse that tears at our social fabric.
That said, I hope your view of God’s dispensation for Mr.Colson, is his endgame.
Regards,
