Bush cut taxes. The rich paid more.

By Tom Quiner

I will be brief.

Barack Obama wants to raise taxes on the rich.

He implies that they are paying less than their fair share because of the Bush tax cuts.

False.

The top 1% paid 23% more in taxes in 2007 than in 2000 … after enjoying a reduction in their tax rate.

Even more, their overall share of the nation’s tax burden climbed from 37% to 40% of all taxes paid.

The bottom half saw the amount they paid in taxes drop by 16%.

To recap:

1. Bush cut tax rates.

2. The rich ended up paying more.

3. The middle class and the poor ended up paying less.

Remember these simple numbers as Barack Obama demagogues this issue en route to driving us over the fiscal cliff.
