Too often, people get a free pass in the name of religion. Like Muslims, Christians have gotten a lot of innocent blood on their hands, and got away with it, because they did it in the name of religion.
There was a lot of talk on TV this weekend because of the gay-marriage cases going before the Supreme Court. One guy talked about how we cannot allow our children to be exposed to such a sinful lifestyle. Can you imagine the conversation a right wing religious mom would have with her five year old son?
“Mom, can Tommy come over to play after school tomorrow?” Mom cringes. She was hoping this would not come up.
“I don’t know, Billy”.
“Please Mom. He is like my best friend.”
“Well, Billy, the problem is Tommy’s parents are not like us.”
“Why? What’s wrong with them?”
“Well, Billy, Tommy doesn’t have a Mommy and Daddy like you have.”
“So. Johnny doesn’t have a Dad and he comes over.”
“Well, you see, Tommy has two Mommies.”
“Yea. They seem really nice. Tommy talks about them a lot.”
“The problem is that God doesn’t like little boys to have two mommies. It’s a sin. You remember what a sin is, right?”
“Yea.” A pause. “So Tommy’s parents are going to burn in Hell forever?”
“Jesus loves us all.”
“But sinners go to Hell, right?”
If the mom answers yes, then Billy may start to question how a loving God could allow this to happen to what seems like nice people. If she answers no, then Billy may start to question the teachings of the Bible.

Brilliant!
