Advice to Republicans
By Tom Quner
Democrats are talking impeachment.
Yes, they are shouting to their base that Republicans want to impeach Barack Obama. They’re doing it because it raises them a boatload of campaign money by firing up their base, even if there is little basis for the narrative.
Republicans should not only ignore the bait, but turn the conversation to something positive. They should talk about their plan turn this country around. They should simply do what Reagan did: restore the belief this country once had in the American Dream.
The over aching theme should be “restoring American Prosperity.”
How? I recommend three talking points:
1. Tax simplification. Let’s simplify the tax code, which is currently five times as long as the Bible. Only the tax code can actually turn the book of Leviticus into scintillating reading. Let’s flatten rates and weed out deductions in a revenue neutral manner. Both sides of the aisle have voiced support for tax simplification. Republicans should take the lead.
2. Health Insurance Freedom. Rather than talking about repealing Obamacare, Republicans should turn it around by talking about health insurance reform in terms of freedom. Let people buy the coverage they need, not the coverage liberal elites cram down their throats. Let’s give the American public the freedom to buy coverage without expensive mandates.
3. Immigration simplification. Democrats keep talking about COMPREHENSIVE immigration reform. The American public have had a bellyful of COMPREHENSIVE BILLS. Obamacare and Dodd-Frank are complex, comprehensive legislative reforms that even the legislators didn’t know what was in them until they passed them. To this day, we’re still finding out new things about these legislative fiascos. Although Republicans will get pushback, I recommend one, simple immigration law that dramatically increases the fine on businesses that hire undocumented workers. Once the incentive of cheap labor is balanced against the risk of heavy fines, the magnet of jobs for illegals declines.
No fence is needed.
No need to deport illegal aliens. They will deport themselves if the jobs aren’t there.
So what happens to the jobs that open up if illegals leave? They will be filled by American citizens who will most likely demand more money, or by documented workers willing to work for less.
Time to get America back on track.
I think all three are excellent ideas.
Thank-you! I appreciate it!
