Pope Francis angers liberals

By Tom Quiner

Talk about a provocative, anti-liberal quote:

“The family is threatened by growing efforts on the part of some to redefine the very institution of marriage. These realities are increasingly under attack from powerful forces which threaten to disfigure God’s plan for creation. Every threat to the family is a threat to society itself.”

Translation: Gay marriage is bad.

Translation: Support for gay marriage is an attack on God.

Translation: Liberals threaten families by supporting gay marriage.

Our liberal Pope sounds pretty traditional.

Loving homosexuals is one thing. Supporting gay marriage is another.
I applaud you for making this post!

…However, not sure we can continue to argue the legality of gay marriage. Most of the time, when we do so, we use words like “God intended” etc. That is not a basis for our laws, and cannot be according to the first amendment. Other reasonable arguments can be made (for and against), but this can no longer be argued legally based on our religious beliefs. We are NOT a Christian nation.

I agree with you Shawn. However, gay marriage and religious freedom cannot co-exist, so religion will always be a part of the conversation.
