Is Christianity on the verge of being criminalized by the Democrats?
By Tom Quiner
The First Amendment enrages liberals, at least that portion that protects our religious liberties.
In a conference call with the Family Research Council, putative Republican presidential nominee, Mike Huckabee, sounded the alarm:
“I think it’s fair to say that Christian convictions are under attack as never before. Not just in our lifetime, but ever before in the history of this great Republic. We are moving rapidly toward the criminalization of Christianity, where it’s not simply going to be that a church’s tax exempt status is threatened, but more importantly where there will be criminal charges for a person who defies what will become a new government norm, new legal norm, and that is that homosexual [unintelligible] becomes a protected class. And I don’t think a lot of people have fully comprehended that that is a bridge—we’ve never crossed that before, it would be the same kind of obligation that one would have for people of a race, people of a gender…”
If and when the courts rule that so-called same-sex marriage is a civil right, religion will either need to surrender to the homosexual lobby, or be prepared for legal sanction, as Huckabee asserts:
“If the courts rule that people have a civil right not only to be a homosexual but a civil right to have a homosexual marriage, then a homosexual couple coming to a pastor who believes in biblical marriage who says ‘I can’t perform that wedding’ will now be breaking the law. Let me make clear: It’s not just saying, ‘well, I’m sorry you have a preference.’ No, you will be breaking the law, subject to civil, for sure, and possibly criminal penalties for violating the law, depending on how the law is written in communities, states and in the nation. And that is more than a direct assault on just religious liberty, it doesn’t just say you can’t do something, it says that if you do practice biblical convictions, and you carry them out, and you do what you’ve been led by the spirit of God to do, your behavior will be criminal.”
Just yesterday at the Women in the World Summit in New York, Hillary Clinton was candid in her assertion that religion must bend to the will of liberals on a another social issue:
“deep seated….religious beliefs” around the world “have to be changed” to promote “critical access” to “reproductive health care,” said Ms. Clinton.
When a liberal uses the term “reproductive health care,” of course she is referring to unfettered access to human abortion.
And of course the ‘religious belief’ that most stands up for the pre born in the world is Christianity. Liberal elites are gunning for us.
Christians should prepare for further economic martyrdom and potential jail time if liberals’ preferred religion, Neo-Paganism, continues to extend its reach into the bowels of government.
We had best be on our guard!
Perhaps I wasn’t quite as conservative then as now but when Vatican II concluded, abandoning centuries of both liturgical and musical tradition in an effort to provide a “more relevant outreach” to people in the “real world”, I quipped to one of the priests at the local parish that, “What the church really needs to return to its mission is a ‘ good persecution’.” It took a while but apparently now it’s here. Perhaps this will enable us to focus more on what is important and less on what is popular. That’s a lesson I learned from a Chinese friend who had suffered extreme persecution living in the People’s Republic and had seen several of his family members incarcerated for refusing to abandon their faith.
Fortunately, this administration is doing it’s best to empty out our prisons of those convicted of drug offenses. Maybe it’s in anticipation of needing to make room for Christians.
Great response. I came into the Church after Vatican II, so I’ve never experienced the Latin Mass. The older I get, the more I appreciate liturgical tradition. The older I get, the more I appreciate religious liberty. And the older I get, the more I ask myself: “what the the heck happened to the Democratic Party?” Great to hear from you, Ms. Doright!
This makes me think of Corrie Ten Boom and how she kept a little bag packed and ready to go for when she would be arrested and put in prison for hiding Jews in her attic. (In the event, she didn’t get to take the bag to prison with her, because when the Nazis showed up to search for the contraband Jews, she carelessly shoved her prison bag in front of the concealed door that led to the hiding place. She didn’t dare draw attention to the door by going to pick up her prison bag when she was arrested, so she had to go to prison without it.) I wonder if we should start packing our prison bags now?
Let us hope not. I think a Republican president and Congress could slow the erosion of our rights. I’m not sure it will reverse the trend. So much has been imposed on us by liberal judges. It is hard to undo that damage in less than fifty years.

I think it’s very possible.
