Here is what’s being said on Facebook about “Occupy Chick-fil-A”
By Tom Quiner
Facebook gives us a glimpse into the culture.
The “Occupy Chick-fil-A” event, as I have dubbed it, generated some interesting conversation.
Liberals, of course, were critical. They used an odd approach to denigrate the Christians who turned out in record crowds to support Chick-fil-A. They questioned their Christian credentials.
Sixty-three thousand Facebook folks “liked” a poster that said,”You’d never see that many Christians lined up to help at a food bank or homeless shelter. And that’s something Jesus actually said to do.”
Another 57,000 shared this inaccurate piece of liberal propaganda.
Of course, it is Christians of all stripes who do the most charitable work in the world. There’s no point in discussing it other than to point out that liberals fear Christianity so much that they feel a need to lie about it, to try to bring us down.
Sad.
On a positive note, a new member of the Catholic clergy used Facebook as a forum to positively talk about the beauty of our Christian faith:
“Had a nice chicken sandwich yesterday. There must have been 400 or more people in line at Chic-Fil-A yesterday. It was amazing- I saw friends from St. Theresa’s, St. Francis, Holy Trinity, and First assembly of God. And the more I hear the stories from the event, the more I realize that the pro-gay movement cannot stand without fully repressing the faith of millions.
Every act Christians do to support freedom of speech and freedom of religion is interpreted as bigoted behavior, as hate. If we are silent, we are thrown out of schools, we are ejected from businesses, we are barred from politics all in the name of “tolerance”.
Due to the aggression of the movement against Catholicism and against Christian biblical principles, it is becoming harder to live the life of a saint and love the people who are forcing themselves upon us. Christianity is not meant to be a private affair between a person and God; it is meant to be shared. And why wouldn’t we share it? There is no greater love in existence than the one God shows His creatures. Why shouldn’t we share that love? And if in that love God has determined that marriage is to be between one man and one woman, how is it hate to support traditional marriage, and to pray for those who have been so wounded by false love?”
It takes courage to speak as he did, for the power structure on the left, along with their minions, will publicly revile you for standing up for your faith.
Just take a look at Chick-fil-A and the public scourging they endured at the hands of Mayor Rahm Emmanuel and other liberal mayors if you have any doubts.
CFA was about freedom of speech and freedom of religion. Do you have any numbers as to how many who attended would actually vote against gay marriage?
Not really. The folks who turned out I’m assuming would overwhelmingly vote in favor of traditional marriage. When voters get a chance to vote on the issue, they vote for traditional marriage. I think voters have had a chance to vote 32 times on the issue, and 32 times they voted in favor in retaining the traditional Christian definition of marriage.
Thank you for sharing, and God bless you. I wrote a piece on this subject last week.
Thanks, Scott. I’m looking forward to checking out your blog.
Let’s do some spin: Only 38% of people in Iowa oppose same-sex marriage.
Reality: Those 38% who oppose same-sex marriage would be more likely to actually vote.
I would chastise people who don’t vote, but if that were the case we would always be stuck with Democrats in office.
The interesting thing about surveys regarding gay marriage, time and time again, is that people don’t vote according to what they say to the pollsters on the phone. When people actually get a chance to vote, they are more likely to vote for traditional marriage.
I’m SO tired of those that think anyone who doesn’t subscribe to their notion of how to address poverty don’t meet the standard of Christian or loving or whatever all else. Nonsense. Until they’ve devoted the last of their resources and time to the issue there’s no room to be looking down their noses at what anyone else does or doesn’t do. And if you’re on facebook constructing images aimed at dogging out those supporting marriage and freedom of speech it’s pretty clear your time isn’t completely devoted to fighting poverty. How about: You’d never see that many self-professed poverty warriors praying in front of Planned Parenthood, volunteering at a crisis pregnancy clinic, bringing donations to the Gabriel Project, praying during the life chain, standing up for life at the March for Life, giving a homeless expectant mother a place to stay, supporting marriage because it IS fundamentally connected to life, or otherwise supporting the fundamental issue of God’s most precious gift. Oh, but then, saying that would be making blanket assumptions and also demonstrating status of being one-issue-focused.
Bravo! Well said. Thanks for weighing in.
