Republicans, let the president play golf for the sake of the nation

Let the president play more golf for the good of the nation

President Obama has played 184 rounds of golf since taking office.

Republicans are constantly criticizing Mr. Obama for his frequent treks to plush, presidential links. They point out ad nauseam that his predecessor, George W. Bush, suspended his golfing habit after we went to war.

Senator Marco Rubio took a few jabs at the president’s golfing habits in remarks made at the Republican convention a couple of years ago:

“Our problem with President Obama isn’t that he’s a bad person. By all accounts, he too is a good husband and a good father and — thanks to lots of practice — a good golfer. Our problem is not that he’s a bad person. Our problem is that he’s a bad president.”

A coalition of golfing organizations aren’t happy with the Senator’s remarks. The Club Managers Association of America, the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America, the National Golf Course Owners Association, and the PGA of America joined together to create a website called “We Are Golf.”

They’ve called for Republicans to cool their rhetoric:

“As we enter the final stretch of campaign season, we write to make a request we hope you will receive in the same spirit in which it is offered. Please reconsider your political strategy of criticizing President Obama’s passion for golf.”

I agree.

I would go further. I encourage the president to play more golf, lots more. I’d like to see the entire Democratic caucus embrace the sport with a vengeance. The more time they spend on the golf course, the less time they’ll take up spending our money, redistributing our wealth, and regulating the innovation out of America.

Back off, Senator Rubio. Let the president play through.
