I’d say the difference isn’t in the victims but in the shooters. Both deaths are tragic. The difference is that the guys who killed the white kid wouldn’t be thought of by any rational person as anything but criminals. The guy who killed the black kid thought he was doing his job, and a lot of people agreed with him.
There was a trial, so hopefully there were some facts.
I agree with you that sensational stories are used by the media to direct attention at some issues and away from others. The government’s decision not to prosecute a single person responsible for the recent financial crisis ought to be bigger news, in my opinion.
