Abortion is more than homicide, it is suicide

The incorruptible body of St. Padre Pio

Saint Padre Pio is tough a guy for modern secularists to relate to.

This 20th century Catholic priest from Italy was famous for hearing the confessions of thousands of faithful and unfaithful Catholics, who would flock to his confessional.

Why? Because Saint Pio had the ability to read souls, to truly see your sin and guide you to reconciliation with Christ.

He once denied absolution to a young woman, and was confronted by another priest, Fr. Pellegrino:

PELLEGRINO: Padre Pio, today you denied absolution to a woman because she had voluntarily undergone an abortion. Why have you been so rigorous with this poor unfortunate?

PIO:  The day that people lose their horror for abortion, will be the most terrible day for humanity. Abortion is not only a homicide but also a suicide. Shouldn’t we have the courage to manifest our faith before those who commit two crimes within one act?

PELLEGRINO: Suicide?

PIO: The suicide of the human race will be understood by those who will see the earth populated by the elderly and depopulated of children: burnt as a desert.

St. Padre Pio was prescient. In his own country of Italy, fertility rates have plummeted below replacement level (1.4 births per couple).

Replacement level is 2.1.

In fact, most of Western Civilization is slowly committing suicide as their fertility rates have plunged well below replacement rates, as you can see on the chart below which shows data compiled by the CIA.

The U.S. hovers right at the replacement level, which doesn’t bode well for a nation of aging baby boomers who need new taxpayers to shore up the shaky foundations of Medicare and Social Security.

ustfr70-11In the U.S., our fertility rates began to plummet around the time of Roe V Wade with the imposition of public policy that declared that human life was disposable if it was inconvenient.

As recently as 1970, our fertility rate stood at 2.5 before its abrupt decline to nearly 1.7 by the late 1970s. Slowly, but surely, it inched its way back to replacement levels under the Reagan/Bush years, only to drop again under the Clinton years.

Again it worked its way back to replacement levels and beyond under George W. Bush, only to drop precipitously under the Obama administration. You can watch its progress on the accompanying chart.

Any way you cut it, a culture of death, which is what defines human abortion, is suicide for a nation.

St. Padre Pio not only could see into the soul of an individual, he could see into the soul of a nation.

Human abortion is nothing but death. Let’s stop killing ourselves.

Greece is in terrible shape. Their population is in steady decline. This is the “ME” generation, as in “nothing is more important than MY happiness”. So people don’t have children, don’t get married, and then as their citizens age, they wonder why they have no money to pay for the benefits. It’s kind of frightening.

Looked it up. Greece’s fertility rate is 1.34. How can they not see that that is NOT sustainable?
