Choice reactions to today’s Supreme Court Obamacare ruling

By Tom Quiner

If you don’t have time to keep up on the high drama of today’s landmark Supreme Court ruling, Quiner’s Diner has distilled some of the best comments into one, concise post:

Erick Erickson, Editor,

” …while Roberts has expanded the taxation power, which I don’t really think is a massive expansion from what it was,

Erick Erickson,

Roberts has curtailed the commerce clause as an avenue for Congressional overreach. In so doing, he has affirmed the Democrats are massive taxers. In fact, I would argue that this may prevent future mandates in that no one is going to go around campaigning on new massive tax increases. On the upside, I guess we can tax the hell out of abortion now. Likewise, in a 7 to 2 decision, the Court shows a strong majority still recognize the concept of federalism and the restrains (sic) of Congress in forcing states to adhere to the whims of the federal government.”

“Today, the Supreme Court has upheld nothing more than a Ponzi scheme to expand the abortion business. If this legislation is not overturned by the next administration, Obamacare’s socialist-style diktats will be used, not to provide better or more affordable health care, but to expand Planned Parenthood’s abortion empire across the backs of American taxpayers and people of conscience – and at the expense of our religious freedoms.”

Matt Smith, President, Catholic Advocate:

” … the “individual mandate” was just one problem with the health care law. Our tax dollars are

still being used to subsidize abortion and our Catholic institutions are still being forced to violate our beliefs.

Congress must act immediately to fix the critical flaws in the health care law and begin to replace them with measured, sensible reforms. At the very least, they should not allow any tax dollars to be used to implement the law while remedies are decided. We encourage them to focus their energy on improving our nation’s health care system in a way that respects all stages of life, protects our consciences, and avoids negatively impacting the economic conditions of Americans.”

“The U.S. Supreme Court has just upheld the very controversial and anti-life Obamacare law — we must act now! We must take the battle to every state in the nation with our campaign to de-fund Planned Parenthood and end taxpayer-funded abortion.”

Here is the best, because it was prophetically written 83 years ago by writer, lecturer, and Christian apologist, G.K. Chesterton:

“Thomas More is more important than at any moment since his death, even perhaps the great

G. K. Chesterton

moment of his dying; but he is not quite so important as he will be in about a hundred years.”

For the uninitiated, St. Thomas More was famously beheaded in 1535 A.D. by King Henry VIII for refusing to violate his religious convictions. His story was made into an award-winning play and movie titled, “A Man for All Seasons.”

Chesterton saw the day when Western Civilization’s religious convictions would be put to the test. Barack Obama is the agent of anti-religious tyranny he predicted. The Supreme Court decision leaves his HHS Mandate in place.

Our battle for religious liberty suddenly takes on additional urgency during this Fortnight for Freedom.

Pray hard for this nation.
