Animal torture trumps human torture

By Tom Quiner

A woman hanged her dog from a tree.

The Des Moines Register put the story on the front page of the Metro Section of the paper. They reported that the woman accused of this crime, Sheena Cornwell, was immediately thrown into jail on the criminal charge of animal torture.

I don’t know a single conservative who doesn’t love dogs (liberals tend to be cat people, don’t you think?). The crime is disturbing, to say the least.

A spokesperson for the St. Francis Foundation for Pets, Becky Fetters, said:

“We will be following this case and seeing it through with the prosecuting attorney. We would like to see that she is charged with animal torture and serves jail time.”

The Register explained the seriousness of the offense:

Under Iowa law, a person commits animal torture by inflicting “severe physical pain with a depraved or sadistic intent to cause prolonged suffering or death” upon an animal. Those guilty of animal torture must undergo a psychological evaluation and treatment and perform community service. A first offense is an aggravated misdemeanor, normally punishable by a fine and up to two years in prison.

Ironically, had Ms. Cornwell merely aborted her baby, even if the child had been 9 months in the womb, the paper would have been silent.

I love dogs. I love babies, too, even when they are most vulnerable, which is that dangerous time they live in their mother’s womb.

But it’s not a toss up, babies trump dogs, unless you’re a liberal. Yes, even cat-loving liberals put dogs ahead of preborn humans.

Why do we allow the abortion of 54 million babies in this country without a peep from the same media that puts the killing of a dog on the front page?

The lack on the part of the left at times of recognition of the soul, often the existence of God, more often the lack of recognition of God, and most often the denial of the need for the latter to make possible the salvation of the former.

I know you don’t take the paper, Lisa, but the story made the front page again today. It is newsy. What’s sad is that abortion isn’t. Thanks for writing.
