Human abortion is on the decline

By Tom Quiner

Good news. Human abortion is on the decline.

The question is: why?

Here is Planned Parenthood CEO, Cecile Richard’s, explanation:

“Better access to birth control and sex education are the biggest factors in reducing unintended pregnancies. More restrictive abortion laws do not reduce the need for abortions.”

Let’s parse her thinking.

It is possible that the availability and sex education affects the rate of unplanned pregnancy. I think it is fair to acknowledge this possibility even though I disagree with the way it is handled by Planned Parenthood and our public schools.

However, more restrictive abortion laws certainly have an effect on the public by shining a light on the humanity of human abortion’s victims: the person in the womb.

It is a callous man or woman who doesn’t care that their child will experience searing pain at the hands of the abortionist’s weapons during the last hour of their life.

Public debate on pain capable legislation initiatives raises public awareness that abortion is truly heartless.

And pro life legislation that increases the availability of ultrasounds to abortion-minded women is powerful. Some nine out of ten women who see their baby in the womb, thanks to ultrasound technology, change their mind about abortion.

There’s another factor in declining abortions, a factor the media willfully ignores: the March for Life.

Marches are taking place throughout the country, with the biggest of them all planted in the heart of the nation’s capital. These marches are overrun with youth who are becoming more and more pro life.

The media gives them scant attention. But poll after poll show that teens and Millennials are becoming increasingly pro life … thanks to these efforts.

This steady embrace of Life over death is the fruit of 42 years of prayer, public outreach and education, and marches.

Life is beautiful.

Let us add the Cecile Richards of the world to our prayer list that God lift the scales from their eyes so they may see the beauty of His creation.

That is a noble prayer.

Tom, thank you again for all of your posts. I continue to look for your e-mails almost immediately as I log on in the mornings. Some comments… God looked on His creation and saw that it was good…. And then we messed things up!

The demographic you cite, the young, are pro-life but they still do not get the theology of the human person. No one is teaching them that there is a reason why the Church teaches as she does. Of course, we will take what we can get, lol, but their “compassion” comes with a price for it is often bereft of the full truth and does not extend to alternate lifestyle evils. My next comment won’t be as charitable (but we are among friends here, lol). The Church tells us that women like Cecile Richards, Hillary Clinton, Lena Dunham are not the enemy. Tell that to the babies who are being sucked (and cut) out of the womb limb by limb because of the support and permission of these non-enemies. Sheesh!

Thanks for your always astute comments, Barbie. I would respond to your last part by paraphrasing Dr. Peter Kreeft who said the true enemy is Satan, who has deluded people like Cecile, Hillary, and Lena. I try to remember that as I grapple with the disgust I feel for people who advance the cause of human abortion.
