Understanding Trump’s appeal

Central Park’s iconic skating rink was closed for 7 years thanks to liberalism.

The Wollman Rink required updates back in 1980 when Ed Koch was Mayor of New York City. Repairs and renovations were projected to take 2 1/2 years. The city embraced an experimental approach to cooling the rink which just plain didn’t work, as Mayor Koch explains in the video above.

After 7 1/2 years of lavish cost overruns, Wollman Rink was still closed.

New York’s bloated and union-dominated bureaucracy was too inept to get the ice frozen on a lousy-stinking skating rink after 7 1/2 years of trying.

In desperation, they turned to real estate mogul, Donald Trump, who took over the project at no profit.

He got the thing rebuilt and re-opened in 3 1/2 months. Oh … and it came in under budget.

This story is a microcosm of American governance. Liberals want government to be bigger. Whenever they gain control, that’s what happens. And of course, they want more of your money, not to pay for their bureaucratic extravagance, but as an excuse to expand upon previous expansions.

Nothing ever gets paid for (unless Newt Gingrich is Speaker of the House).

And none of liberals’ lavish programs never seem to work very well.

Obamacare is a total bust.

The VA is a joke.

The IRS views conservative taxpayers as the enemy.

The EPA wants to regulate us back to the stone age.

A trillion dollar jobs stimulus program turns out to be payback to the president’s union buddies. No jobs are stimulated.

Lyndon Johnson’s Great Society decimates the African-American community. Liberals scream that the problem is that the programs don’t have enough money, despite taxpayer “investments” in the trillions of dollars.

Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid are all going broke.

The American people are played for suckers with every single dollar that goes down the government rat hole.

Along comes a guy like Donald Trump who says this is all B.S. You know what? A ton of voters agree.

You know what? A lot voters don’t trust that Republicans are any better than Democrats.

You know what? A lot voters look at Mr. Trump’s record and trust him a lot more than the blowhards they believe created the whole mess.

I’m not a Trump fan.

The federal government isn’t the Wollman Rink. It is far worse.

Can a Donald Trump fix our turgid federal leviathan? I’m doubtful. On the other hand, he couldn’t possibly make it any worse than 7 years of Obama.
