The most beautiful woman in human history is still hated

By Tom Quiner

No woman has been hated more than the most beautiful woman in the world.

Who is this woman of extraordinary beauty?

Her name is Mary, the Mother of Jesus the Christ.

Modern man judges beauty by dress size and surgically altered appearance.

Catholic faithful embrace Marian art like this…

Catholic faithful embrace Marian art like this…

God judges beauty by the soul. Mary had a soul more beautiful than any man or woman ever born, except for One, Her Son.

According to Catholic dogma, Mary was preserved from original sin from the moment of her conception. How could the Son of God been born to any other person?

She is not tainted by Original Sin like you and me.

Today, the Catholic Church celebrates the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary. As a convert to the faith, it took me many years to get to know Mary, but I have, and I love her.

Mary is all about love and mercy. She is the most powerful intercessor of our prayers. To be clear, Catholics do not pray to Mary, we ask her to pray with us and for us.

So how could such a beautiful soul be so hated?

…while effete art critics prefer Marian depictions like this.

…while effete art critics prefer Marian depictions like this.

Scripture gives us a clue in the Book of Genesis:

“I will establish a feud between thee and the woman, between thy offspring and hers; she is to crush thy head, while thou dost lie in wait at her heels” (Gen 3:15).

In other words, Satan had corrupted Eve; God made it clear that another woman, Mary, would one day come along and bring the One who would crush the head of the Serpent, the ultimate Hater.

Mary would become the new Eve. How Satan hates and fears this Blessed Mother of us all.

To this day, She is still hated by some.

A recent dust up in the culture war highlights the controversy over Mary. The National Museum of Women in the Arts launched an exhibition titled “Picturing Mary” a few years ago.

An art critic for the liberal Washington Post, Philip Kennicott, was livid. It seems that the art of the Blessed Mother on display was too flattering, too consistently beautiful for the taste of the effete. Mr. Kennicott was furious that the exhibit didn’t include “perhaps the most famous image of Mary painted in the last quarter century.”

And what image might that be?

That would be Chris Ofili’s “The Holy Virgin Mary,” painted with elephant dung and female genitalia on display.

In other words, an image that the faithful would consider a desecration of our beautiful Blessed Mother, is revered by the snooty cultural elite of the left.

I’m sure Satan agrees.

As for me, I look forward to honoring Mary on her beautiful feast day at Mass tonight.

As Protestants, we have great respect for Mary, the mother of Jesus. We believe Mary was given a special purpose on earth, which should be thought of with high regard; but she was not infallible. If she were, why would she call Jesus her savior? What scripture do you cite that says that Mary was infallible? We believe that Christ is the only mediator between God and man and was the only infallible person too exist.

Harlan, you seem to be looking for an argument where none exist. I never said Mary was infallible. The Catholic Church doesn’t say Mary was infallible. Christ IS Mary’s savior. The difference is He save her from sin before she was born; the rest of us after we’re born. Christ is the only mediator between God and man. Thanks for writing.

I think I know what Harlan is talking about. I have heard Catholics state that some believe that the conception of Mary’s mother (of Mary) is the immaculate conception that is miraculous, as Christ could only be immaculately conceived if Mary were infallible from birth. I don’t know where such a belief would come from, but it’s out there among some Catholics. It might go toward explaining some of the worship habits I have witnessed at shrines to Mary. There would be little to no mention of Christ or God in the prayerful interaction. I’m pretty sure the Vatican does not view Mary as immaculately conceived. I am always in aww of how she lived and took god’s will over her own even unto the death of her son. I’ve long felt the true miracle was that she decided to allow god to give her a child despite all she knew that meant. As I understand God, He would NOT force such a thing on a person against their will. The folks who feel she was immaculately conceived feel she would not have taken on such a scary thing and been as obedient as she was if she had original sin. I think of Mother Theresa when such an argument is stated. There have been many miraculously obedient saints and others…too many to assume such a thing requires immaculate conception.

The Church DOES believe in the Immaculate Conception of Mary, and in fact, celebrates it. This is a good conversation. I’ll try to take it up this weekend when I have a little more time. Thanks for writing.

Thanks. Your explanation helped. Is there a scripture that talks about Mary having been saved from her sin before she was born?

Your brother Steve attends the same church we do.

I’ll be with my brother tonight, as a matter of fact. This is a good conversation, Harlan, I’ll follow up with more info, hopefully by Saturday. I’m a convert to the faith, and a former critic of Catholic “obsession” with Mary. I’ve come around. There are good reasons why, and I’ll try to convey a few key points to the best of my ability. Thanks for writing.

I am confused about where Mary’s conception is mentioned in scripture. I don’t tend to give wt. to the inferences men come up w/ to explain what they think is unanswered. I know many who feel the bad go straight to h— as they thinks it’s just. The book states “To be absent from the body is to be present w/ The Lord. H— is not prepared yet. Even Satan does not go there until the end of the 1000 yr reign of Christ on Earth. An awful lot is believed by people of faith in all Christian grps that’s just not in the book or even frankly disputed. Please help me w/ scripture to see the validity of this point. Always willing to learn new scriptural fact.Been working a lot more of late.Always good to hear from you.

Mary’s conception is not directly mentioned in scripture. The doctrine of the Immaculate Conception was revealed by the Holy Spirit, not man. I discussed it in an another post I just put up on Saturday. I think you’ll find it interesting. Even if you don’t agree, I think you’ll appreciate the way the Catholic Church has unpacked Sacred Scripture in a way that is logical … and biblical. And what is the Catholic Church? The Bride of Christ, who is animated by the Holy Spirit. The Spirit is real. The Spirit is alive. And the Spirit protects the Church from doctrinal error.
