Faith
New Mother Teresa movie opens this Friday
Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta scares me.
This tiny slip of a woman was far stronger than any man I’ve ever known, and I’ve known some strong men.
But her strength, grounded in unquestioning faith in God, required “a letting go” that is daunting…

Planned Parenthood must really be desperate.
They are actually turning to prayer in a sort of “Hail Mary” attempt to help them hold on to their crumbling human abortion empire. No, let’s be honest. It’s a cynical ploy to stem the tide against them by people of faith who believe God is on the side of the pre born…

Mark Shea is a Catholic commentator.
His theological insights are excellent. However, he exhibits a real edge on political, social, and economic issues, sure to infuriate liberals and conservatives alike.
His Facebook post yesterday on the “greenhouse effect,” a precursor to global warming and climate change et al, was hysterical. Enjoy!

“So do you have big plans for the day?” the young young woman queried.
I was buying a cup of coffee at Starbucks. The barista was perky and engaging.
I quickly thought about my day. “Let’s see, I just finished my conference call. What else is going on?”
And then I remembered.
I looked at the young woman and told her I will be attending Mass tonight to celebrate the Feast of the Assumption of Mary, a holy day of obligation in the Catholic Church.

“I had done interfaith dialogue before, so this was not a new experience for me. We were separated into groups for the dialogue, and when I was permitted to speak, I said, “I am Catholic, and I do not believe in Islam.” Following me, one of the Muslim students spoke. She said that she was Muslim, and then she addressed me directly. In a soft, Arabic accented voice, she told me, “You are an infidel because you do not accept Islam. According to Islam, you do not deserve to live.” A second Muslim student heartily agreed, and after repeating the first student’s comments she added, “In Islam, the Koran and the tradition of the prophet are very clear about this. You deserve to die.”

A critical reader challenged me:
“What exactly did Jesus say about defining marriage as being between a man and a woman?”
This is a test question.
