Why there’s a wealth gap between races
I got into a Facebook exchange on the subject of wealth gaps.
A friend posted an article with a link to a leftwing study on the wealth gap between blacks and whites: “The average Black family would need 228 years to build the wealth of a white family today.”
The article blames the wealth gap on “400 years of slavery, segregation, and institutionalized discrimination in labor and housing markets…” and calls for reparations.
Here’s how our exchange went:
“How great thou art”
By Tom Quiner One of my favorite hymns is “How great thou art.” I’ve made it clear that I want it sung at my funeral Mass one day. I prefer the hymn sung more up tempo than the typical church organist. When I’m on the piano, I play it in a more gospel music style, which is why I enjoy this version by Elvis.
The discipline fix
Two sets of school systems.
A tepid 20% of the students in System One are able to pass their state’s math tests.
A robust 95% of the students in System Two are able to pass the same tests.
Which system works best? It is self-evident: System Two.
Which system does Hillary Clinton support? System One.
Why you should be frightened
Democrats view Trump as Hitler. Republicans view Hillary as Satan.
Nuance is lacking in this crass age. So is an educated citizenry, as you can see in the video above.
Students at Texas Tech University were asked three questions by a roving interviewer:
Who won the Civil War.
Who is the Vice President of the United States.
From whom did we gain our independence from?
Almost none knew the answers to any of these basic questions. It is fair to claim that I cannot imagine any member of the Baby Boom Generation, of which I am a member, not knowing the answers to any of these questions … from sixth grade on.
Religious leaders debate Islam
POPE FRANCIS: “I think it is not right to identity Islam with violence. This is not right and this is not true.”
Feminist confusion
“It [feminism] is mixed up with a muddled idea that women are free when they serve their employers but slaves when they help their husbands.” ― G.K. Chesterton
