I will cast my vote tomorrow for the goodness of America.
Our experiment in democracy has embraced goodness as a goal, as a condition for living in the greatest country in the history of the world.
A Frenchman visiting this rugged country in the 19th century proclaimed,
“America is great because she is good. If America ceases to be good, America will cease to be great.”

A season of disillusionment
For whom shall we vote?
I know many, many conservatives who refuse to vote for Trump. They’re simply disillusioned. I understand. Trump is a man of flawed character who is no conservative.
I participated in an email exchange today that discussed an op-ed piece published by Ari Fleisher, former press secretary for George W. Bush.
Fleisher is a good guy. I like him. I respect him. But I disagree with him when he says he is going to leave the ballot for president blank.
He speaks for a lot of Republicans. My response:
“Black people are stupid.”
How would you react if I said to you with a straight face:
“Don’t step out in front of that truck driving by.”
“Don’t forget to tip the waiter.”
“Here, let me show you how to open that car door.”
You’d be insulted. You’d bark back at me, “Do you think I’m stupid?”
And how would it go over if said, “well, you’re…
